Conversation Between Fynn and Wolf Kanno

  1. There's tons of stuff like that in the Witcher. Definitely makes the scope of the game more manageable.

Are you using some in-game tool for sprites and portraits?
  2. That's cool, I always like when games throw in events that are still playable but have nothing to do with fighting.
  3. You'll get the hang of it, trust me

Meanwhile, I've just attended an in-game wedding. A whole chunk of the game where nothing bad happens. You just go and have fun at a wedding. It's glorious.
  4. That's fine, as long as you like the idea and feel it will work best, I say go for it.

If I can ever get the event scenario to work how I want and finish building the locations, I'll certainly recruit you as a play tester. I'm using some in-game stuff for music at the moment, but once I get the main event going, I'll play around with music.

So far, the most interesting part for me has been building the characters because while I have an idea in my head what they look like, it was quite the challenge to make it a reality with the meager options I have with the game kit. Still, it's kind of nice to have a concrete image of some of the cast. It even persuaded me to push the scenario a bit further just so I could add a few more characters. Its going to take some time though, as my inability to build convincing indoor buildings is pretty obvious.
  5. Ooh, awesome! If you need any playtesting or script help, you know where to find me! Also music, I guess, but I still don't have good software.

Tactics Ogre is really good and all the MATsuno talk really got me wanting to try the game again. Of course, not gonna happen anytime soon since I gotta pick up my PSP from my parents' place plus I'm planning to take a break from games for a bit after I complete the Witcher and really just throw myself into a writing frenzy. I've got some more ideas now, but the Witcher has me enraptured too much. I am thinking of writing a side story to the fanfic detailing Jack and Bailey's failed relationship. I see it as a side story since the demon involvement will be minimal and I want to approach the narrative a bit differently. Also, no point in writing and posting it now - I really want it to build up on an image of the characters that has already been established in the mind of the reader, so it'll be a while.

If you're curious, and just so I don't spoil too much, I can tell you I'm not going to use your idea for it or either of my previous two ideas. So far, their relationship has shaped into something different altogether in my head, so I hope I can make it compelling. One thing has t changed though - it's still completely and utterly doomed.
  6. That's good to hear. I've been playing Ogre Battle, which seems to have finally gotten me out of my gaming slump. This also reminded me that I have never actually played Tactics Ogre, so I'm thinking of finishing off Persona 1 really fast and then charging the PSP to start that game.

In writing news, I've been fiddling around with RPG Maker VX Ace, and decided that instead of coming up with some silly scenario to do as a test run, I'm just going to use my major story Soul as the basis and do the opening chapters. This works out a bit for me because the story was originally conceived as a game and lord knows I need to edit those opening chapters down a bit. So I've already generated the first set of characters and I'm building Rebecca's house.
  7. So far, the first of two Witcher expansions has really surprised me - and in a good way. I expected just a fun little side story, but there's genuine effort here. The story is not derivative of the books this time, but instead is a retelling of a Polish story that is on its own our local version of Faust (funny how I mentioned Faustian themes before I even got to this). Even though it focuses on original characters, I feel that it does a great job reinforcing Geralt's character. The conflict is very personal and very gray, but it has that typical sarcastic Witcher snicker about the whole thing. The main antagonist is especially well done, being both incredibly chilling (with kids singing creepy nursery rhymes about him, even throughout the base game, which I hadn't noticed - and then you meet him just after hearing it again and it clicks. Really unsettling) but also really fun to be around? I felt the base game's antagonist was a bit underdeveloped (though that's fine considering he game is really all about the characters rather than an external threat), so this is definitely a treat.
  8. Ooh, I'll have to check it out. Thanks.
  9. They're great when they're well done, though I think they're even cringier than happy endings if tgeyre forced

Btw, thought you might enjoy this. It's about the flaws in the idea of huge open world games. It touches on the Witcher a bit but is overall just about the genre and its pitfalls. Also one of my favorite youtubers.

  10. I kind of blame this series and Eva for my love of tragic love stories.
