Conversation Between Ayen and Wolf Kanno

  1. Well it was a bit annoying back in the day. I've always half joked that VII's greatest contribution to the series was introducing a run button instead of making it an ability like in V and VI.

Funny enough the shoes still double your speed in the later ports so walking is now running and running makes you go crazy fast.
  2. Let's see, pay 1500 gils for running shoes, or use the run button? Running shoes, run button? Running shoes, run button?

Did people complain about not being able to go faster without the Sprint Shoes or something?
  3. Oh yeah then the Sprint Shoes are your best friends. The later ports added a run button making the shoes almost worthless.
  4. Original version. I was originally going to review the PS1 version, but I got my hands on the original earlier this month so decided to go with that.

Do you want to buy a Fenix Down?
  5. Luckily several shops tend to carry that particular relic. Are you playing the original version or the PS1/GBA version?
  6. Ohh, the relics. I do enjoy them. My only regret is not buying more of the relics that increase your speed. I didn't think the group would get split up the way they did.
  7. Yeah, I always preferred Edgar's Tools to Sabin's Blitzs.

The game has two different types of customization systems. One are the relics which grant buffs or special abilities like Jump or Coin Toss. The other comes later in the story, the Esper system involves teaching magic to party members and certain espers grant stat bonuses when equipped while you level.
  8. There's a customization system? Told you I was slow.

Speaking of bosses, I had something funny happen while doing the one on one boss with Sabin. He was explaining the blitz move to me (I can't believe I didn't get that as a kid), and said "Don't worry if you get it wrong, there's no rush." What happens next? Boss kills me in the next hit. Don't worry, huh? That seems pretty worrisome to me!

Also, Edgar's tools are the best.
  9. Or got cheesed by a few specific bosses...

Yeah VI is pretty easy, which is a major fault in my book. The customization system is also more intriguing on paper than in practice and only aggravates the difficulty issue.
  10. 4 is the only one I haven't beat. Sooner or later I need to run through the other DMC games for my reviews. I already reviewed the original and the reboot.

I don't find any actual fault in it, it's just not something I'm used to. If there is any fault I can see right now is that the game may be too easy, but I knew that going in, and most of them are easy. I think I only had two parts that gave me trouble, and a lot of close calls where I thought I was going to die only to rise above at the last minute like I was Hulk Hogan or something. You have to put in actual effort to die in this game.
