At least you'll be done with this atrocity soon Nah, I tease a lot, but Persona 1 had some really interesting ideas going for it, it just has certain design quirks that make my blood boil. I certainly appreciate what it was trying to achieve and that the potential it had got expanded on so substantially in the following installments. I might still give it another roll someday. No promises, though I was also very happy yesterday when my wife told me that although she enjoyed playing P4G more, she thinks 3 had a much better story I'm so glad there are people who give P3 the respect it deserves rather than just remember it as "oh yeah that one game that came before one of the best PS2 RPGs of all time that's pretty skippable".
I'm on the last tower, and I think there is one final dungeon after that. The SQQ is pretty short, but much more difficult due to the extreme difficulty spikes. Negotiations are the key to surviving the whole thing.
So how much more do you have left?
I feel the same way. Nanjou actually grew into one of the better characters through the first two persona titles. Even Eriko, who is surprisingly arrogant in her own right gets bonus points for being such a huge dork at the same time. The Snow Queen Quest has been a pretty interesting ride so far. We're trying to collect shards of glass from the broken Demon Mirror to stop the Snow Queen (Nyx in disguise) while climbing three towers based on her children from mythology (Hypnos, Nemisis, and Thanatos) but each Tower is guarded by a spirit murdered by the snow queen and granted a wish in exchange. Thanatos wanted to be beautiful forever, and Hypnos wanted to escape to the world of dreams so she could feel safe and happy. Well it's a all a little more complicated than that but it's been kind of interesting. I bitched slapped the Hypnos Persona after all the hell I went through in the Thanatos Tower.
Well that's interesting! I've come to the conclusion that I like jerks in fiction because they're usually more layered than the "nice" protagonists as they really get room for depth and growth - dare I say, it even makes them more realistic. Like, in Witcher 3 your Default love interest is returning from the books and she's kind of a bitch. She's very sarcastic, she does whatever the bell she wants and really doesn't care about anyone else's feelings at all when she's doing her thing. She wants other people to trust her while not trusting anyone herself. It's interesting that she comes back now as another character from the books was the default love interest in the previous two games and she's sweet and kind... too bad she took advantage of the fact that the protagonist forgot everything, including the fact that he loves someone else So yeah, I'll take the jerky but honest characters over the nice yet manipulative ones any day of the week
Yeah, she mellowed out when she got a little older. The game makes it clear she used to be a gang member and she has a rather unhealthy obsession with the Homeroom Teacher.
Even Yukki is a jerk?
I've decided that the most amusing thing about the Snow Queen Quest is that barring the MC and Eriko, every other member of your team is an absolute jerk with zero sympathy for anyone. So it gets amusing when the bad guys spill their heart out about their angst, and your whole party basically tells them to suck it up and stop whining. It's a far cry from the more "friendship is the real power" of the later entries.
Yeah, I love Persona memes.
I'm glad persona memes exist
