Conversation Between Fynn and Wolf Kanno

  1. I don't know, I'm actually trying to think of another post-apocalyptic series in the 90s that can be compared to it. I would probably say his old designs feel a bit dated since that whole scene was more of an 80s thing.

You have a very curvy style to your designs.
  2. Oh don't get me wrong, I love it! It's just that back in the day, I feel that was the more marketable style.

Btw, I tried to recreate some of Kaneko's demon designs here in some art I'm doing for my Devil Summoner fanfic (original characters mostly, since it's NYC, but definitely some cameos, not to mention all the demons), and I can say that the designs are delightfully simple - and I mean that in the best way possible. They're super creative while not being over designed, which can't really be said for Soejima's monster designs, tbh. Glad Doi is making things simple too (although I do feel his demons look a bit too much like the human characters).
  3. True, but you saw so little of that kind of design in places. I have a serious soft spot for 80's apocalyptic visuals so I guess it never bothered me or looked boring.
  4. True, but it's funny when you consider Kaneko's early work and how generical 80s anime it looked
  5. Actually, some fans think Kaneko got kicked upstairs since his titles don't sell as well as the Persona teams. Of anything, I feel he had to since the original producer/president of the company left them around the time Persona 3 came out. He's like one of the few original staff members left.

I don't mind Soejima and Doi either, but I feel in the case of Soejima at least, that his style is a bit too... commercial I guess? Kind of like Nomura's style. There isn't anything wrong with their artwork, but it kind of just seems to blend in with what everyone else is doing. Kaneko's art style on the other hand is edgy and eye-catching, even if it is often bizarre and ridiculous.
  6. I like Soejima and Doi just fine tbh, but I don't think either of them is doing the new Strange Journey avatars? And I get Kaneko probably wants to focus on bigger roles and take a break from designing, since he's been a producer on most recent projects, but I miss new demon designs from him, and Strange Journey's atmosphere was really only possible with his character designs.
  7. Yeah, it feels like Atlus is going a bit overboard with "appealing character designs". I honestly prefer Kaneko's character designs to Persona's new artist.
  8. I mean, yeah, I'm happy it'll get more reach, and I'm actually looking forward to the fact that they added voices. Will probably make it feel more like IV, which is a good thing. I'm not too wild about the character redraws, though, and I really don't know how the new character will fit in because she looks wildly out of place. Probably gonna skip this, since the original was pretty perfect in my eyes, but maybe someone else will get to experience it thanks to this.

And don't even get me started on Radiant Historia. They've redesigned one of the key characters who had a really cool and original design for her role and turned her into a generic moe blob. I hate that.
  9. Strange Journey and Raidiata Historia are both getting remakes actually.

I foresee a Marie element with Strange Journey, but I'm frankly happy the game is going to get a second shot cause it deserves it. Though I would prefer a remaster/collection of the SNES/PSX era MegaTen at at the moment.
  10. Dunno if you heard about this, but Strange Journey is apparently getting a 3DS remake. The original is my favorite SMT game, but... I really don't know how to feel about this?
