Conversation Between Momiji and Evastio

  1. I can't wait for the second season!
  2. Oh. That clears up why you like it a lot.

It's kind of hard for me to see it like that. Hopefully the 2nd season will change that.
  3. Okay, rule number one from now on: stop with the 'I hope I didn't offend you' stuff. There is probably nothing someone with your personality could ever do to offend me. Loosen up a bit! You'll live longer.

Anyway, that's a valid reason for disliking it, but I personally didn't find Haruhi to be that selfish and inconsiderate-- I mean, yeah, she was, but a lot of the time it was for comedic effect-- TMoHS is a seinen comedy series after all. And the story is unique in the fact that instead of having a character that acts and thinks that he/she should be the center of the universe, Haruhi actually is the center of the universe. Because of her godlike powers, she can literally do as she pleases. It's not that she was made to be an irritation-- not in my eyes at least. I see the series as an example of what someone who actually is the center of the universe would be like. Consider it a satire.

That's just what I see it as. Your points are completely valid as well.
  4. The main reason I don't like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is because Haruhi isn't as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. I find her too inconsiderate (because of how she treats Mikuru) and selfish (like that time she threatened the computer club into giving her their best computer). Seeing how the whole plot revolves around her, it irritates me quite a bit as well. If she had a really good reason for being that way (like being around selfish people during elementary school or having selfish inconsiderate parents) I would be okay with it.

I hope I didn't offend you too much with my explanation as to why I didn't enjoy it.
  5. Yes, but if you do that, people may never find out about something they may like a lot. Like I said before, don't sweat it. It seems you're being overly cautious, a needless effort. Feel free to be yourself around me and everyone else. You'll find that you'll be much happier about it.

And I see nothing narcissistic about recommending something to someone. You're giving the person a chance to expand their horizons and maybe attempt to expand yours as well. And if they don't like it, give that person a chance to introduce something to you-- you can better learn what that person likes so you have something to refer to the next time you want to introduce something to that person.

Also, I had no idea you didn't like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya! See, this just further proves my point-- now that I know you don't like it, I can rule out suggesting other series similar to it, since you won't like them. This way, the next time I think 'oh, maybe Evastio would like this' I can remember that you didn't like one similar to it, so I don't have to subject you to something you don't like.

Consider it trial-and-error to figure out what people like. And when you finally figure it out, it gives you an opportunity to build upon that as a common interest between you and that person. Not only will you be able to pinpoint what that person likes eventually, it gives one a chance to become closer friends with that person and maybe learn more about them.
  6. I guess you're right since it's be really hard to know for sure what would interest people. Even though you knew I liked anime with pretty girls in it I ended up not liking The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

I also don't like recommending things to people for another reason; it's a bit of a selfish thing to do in a way. I don't mean to offend you by saying that but I find it a little narcissistic to make people like things that you also like. Sure it's nice at times since you'll be able to relate to people with the same interests easier but it's more respectful to let people choose what they like and what they don't like.
  7. Not at all, stop beating yourself up. Everyone has different interests; you can't always insure a perfect recommendation all the time. Besides, I do like Pokémon, I just prefer the color version games over the console ones. No worries.
  8. ...I guess it's now obvious that I suck at recommending things...

I usually avoid doing it since I just end up annoying people with it most of the time.
  9. Yeah, it was pretty good.
  10. ...oh.

Well, you at least found the music enjoyable right?
