Kon was certainly a tad chipper than Anno, but I think it would be hard to find another creative as bipolar as Anno.
Yeah, I was a bit hesitant on sharing it because of that, but I also thought the vid was too good to pass up, and given our shared love of Kon, it just felt like it’d be a betrayal not to share it That last bit took me by surprise however. I hadn’t read much about Kon’s life, but i somehow imagined he was one of those depressed creative à la Anno, but while Kon did suffer at first, it looked like he was only becoming happier with his career as he went on. It’s all the more saddening it was cut short like that. But it’s also good to know he seems to have made his peace with it.
Yeah, that was a great vid on a great director. The last section hit a little too close too home, but I'm happy you shared it with me.
Figured you might like this
That is very true. I'm sad there is very few good SMT Youtube channels. Either they are just game reviewers trying too hard to be funny. There is one guy who has some interesting topics, but in addition to having an annoying voice, he also tends to just debate other people about the topic into two hour messes. I have one guy that is okay, but doesn't go into depth like I would like. I feel Vaarti Vidya and the Soulsborne community as a whole has spoiled me on strong analytical videos about a series. The guy I linked to dopes have some great videos as well, but his videos can be a bit excessive.
Ugh yeah that’s definitely obsessing too much over that. Then again, I feel that if any series would spawn that kind of fan, it’s MGS
Like as an example: Like it's very informative and has some great details, but... yeah I don't know if he goes on too many tangents or what but taking a 45 second piece of dialogue and spending half an hour explaining all the subtext , symbolism, and allusions just feels a bit weird to me. Most of his work is good but holy hell I'm on tape 2 of this series he's doing and he's trying to show where he thinks some footsteps overhears in a tape were recorded on a military base for reasons?
These are video essays, but this guy is just crazy on details. I mean he's taking the two minute tape recording from one of several dozen story tapes and wrote a 45 minute essay on what was sai in it. I mean there is some interesting historical and literary research in the videos, but I feel the logic connecting it all may be too much of a stretch and giving Kojima more credit than he deserves.
Well, you know me and you know that the reason why I don’t watch a lot of gaming YouTube anymore is that I prefer the video essay format and people really digging into the themes of a work. That said, hell yeah fandoms go off the deep end sometimes. And with a mind as crazy as Kojima’s being responsible for the work in question, is it really any surprise that people like that would surface to discuss it?
Have we discussed how absolutely insane Kojima fans are? I've been listening to a crazy fan's Youtube series that is very informative and detailed, but also feels like he's attaching way more metaphors and allusions that I don't quite feel is there. It's like some serious Future Esthar style shenanigans.
