He is, but I'm concerned that a failure on XV's part may convince SE to go back to their old bad habits.
I also can't believe I'm hearing people complain about the soundtrack
But Tabata's still part of that whole "FF Quality Committee" or whatever it was called, right?
I feel these fans are just pissed off because they are not getting the "golden game" they imagined back in 2006. I remember Duke Nukem Forever getting crucified when it finally released and you can already see a lot of bitterness from gamers concerning The Last Guardian. Last gen was a lot of hype with no pay off and I'm pretty sure fans passed their judgements on these games three years ago. My hope is that it at least does well enough to keep Tabata relevant at the company. While I'm still up in the air about his directing skills, I feel the guy really knows what is best for the franchise and I really wish he and Kitase could switch positions within the company.
Agreed. This has actually made me even more excited for the game because I just loved XII's world-building and how subtle it is. Hearing fans cry over the story (and some really ridiculous gripes with the final boss) makes me feel like I'm once again listening to the FFX fans not getting the experience they wanted with XII. And I'm honestly kinda surprised with how many people who bought this game seem to be going out of their way to prove it's a failure - the number of people saying they beat the game in under 20 hours is huge and they always say that as if this was definite proof SE have failed again, when you could just as well blast through the Witcher III in 3 hours really and no one's doubting that game's merits. Idk, it just seems weird that people go out of their way to have the weakest possible experience with the game and then complain about it
I always felt like XV was meant to me more about seeing a world and building up the relationship of the four main heroes. Pretty much how in XII, I feel like experiencing Ivalice is the real core experience of the game as opposed to the objective given to you. I'm not surprised the people who just relegate the game to just the main custscenes would be disappointed.
It's interesting to read the impressions of people who've already beaten XV. Apparently those who blazed through the game and beat it in 20 hours are severely disappointed with the story while those who took their time to soak in the experience loved it. From what they've said, the cutscenes themselves don't really deliver that big part of a story - a lot of it is in the dynamic dialogue you can hear around the world when you take the time to walk around
It will be interesting to see indeed.
I think I've heard that a whole lot of Edgar's tools are in the game. And then there's Ultros, Magitek Armors, etc. I wonder what other shout-outs we'll get to see!
Yeah, he's put a lot of VI shout outs into his titles. Hell, the chainsaw tool is actually in FFXV.
