It's just my personality I guess. I'm pretty stubborn when I get ordered around. I was really bad about homework and reports when I was in school as well. I was always chastised for being lazy about doing assignments. I guess my issue is that when you add a deadline, it stops being fun and starts feeling like work.
Oh, that's interesting. Because this actually made me write way more than I could before. But maybe it's just that it's that push I needed. And yeah, other peojects keep coming back now too. It's kinda frustrating, but so far it's been surprisingly easy to focus.
My issue lately is that I keep wanting to get back to other projects as I work on this one. My main novel I haven't touched in months has been seeing more action since this month started than it has in ages. That and I have other orders of business I've been putting off finally poking me to be finished, so I've been pretty bad about staying focused. There is something about deadlines and required daily writing that just amps up my procrastination. I haven't even bothered updating what little I have written on the main site.
Well, right now I'm almost done with chapter 1, and very ready to start chapter 2. So we'll just see how it goes from here. It's also a shame that I probably won't be able to write at all on Friday and Saturday since we'll be having guests. But then I'll still have half a Sunday, so maybe I can catch up some.
That may very well happen. I feel you should just start on the third chapter and see how the story goes. If you begin to write it in a way that differs greatly from the early drafts, it may be easier to see how you need to change it if you actually have stuff to reference instead of staring at what appears to be a fairly complete undertaking and wracking your brain on how to recreate the wheel so to speak.
I might end up splitting the chapters up more later, and I actually hope my second draft will actually be a much shortened version, so who knows. I'm kind of frustrated that I'm still kind of sticking too much to the structure of the original draft of the first chapter instead of just moving away from it to make it more fresh. Maybe the later chapters will be shorter and then I'll just edit the first two to be more in line with the rest.
I noticed I tend to have shorter chapters.
Yeah, I have a similar problem. Wanted to trim down the first two chapters with the rewrite. With over 5000 words, I still haven't finished chapter one.
Yeah I know how it feels to look back on old works. Hell I still feel my writing feels like an armature attempt but part of that was not writing for several years so I'm old enough to see flaws but I'm still writing like I'm a freshmen in college. If my revision for the opening chapter at scribophile is anything to go by. I'm pretty sure my revisions of what I've written will end up being edited down to something more manageable. I can already tell I'm spending far too much time building up plot points and not enough time focusing on action and things actually moving. Hell, I'm currently stuck in a fight scene largely because I pull a Naruto and end up interrupting it with a flashback sequence. I already have a plan to fix this chapter but I decided to just leave it for now and wait for revisions. My NaNo novel is having a similar issue where I can already see problems with how I'm going about it but I'm trying desperately to no go into revisions yet cause that's what stalls all of my writing projects besides focusing too much time on world building extra materials.
That's one big novel! And yeah, I know. It's why I actually put my book on hiatus and devoted like two years to writing shorts. My style has changed so much since then that I can barely look at my old drafts of the first two chapters anymore.
