Jim Sterling seemed to love the new Doom and that's generally good enough for me to want to try it out. And don't even get me started on graphics cards i can't afford. Nothing like a wonderfully designed piece of hardware (or anything really) to get me drooling.
It's an interesting field. It starts out simple, as you learn basics, then gets more complicated, as you learn technical details, then more simple again as you understand applications. Then it gets more complicated again as you move to the doctorate level stuff and actually designing chips and things. I met her on Smashboards. Some of the Robin fans formed a tight knit little group after his reveal trailer, and I met her there. I was thinking the new one. I've heard good things about it. And, since you need to upgrade your GPU, you've given me an excuse to show off this magnificent piece of engineering:
That's awesome about the new job. Electronics engineering sounds like an interesting field. And I've always heard in the past that the cities in Texas tend to be more liberal. I'm sure that like most stereotypes of places there's some truth to some of it, but nothing like that is ever totally applicable to everything of course. Especially the more diverse a place becomes and cities do tend to attract people from all places. How'd you meet your girlfriend? The girl I'm dating right now lives an hour away from here. Not quite as bad as the distance you deal with but still makes it hard to spend more than a day or two together at a time. We're hoping that I'll be able to get a business off the ground and move in together once we're able, but no idea how long that will take right now. And despite the fact that I've played it to death over the years I would love to see you stream Doom. Unless you're talking about the new one which I'd still love watching. Based on the demo I'm at the point where I'll finally have to upgrade my GPU again. Haha! Have fun building the new PC too. I'd love to build myself a new one from scratch again, but that'll probably be a few years off still. Just have to upgrade as necessary for now.
I've sold books for a living the past seven years (tomorrow is my last day with Barnes & Noble). Just graduated with my Associate's Degree in Electronics Engineering, and I'm due to begin work with Texas Instruments on the 31st. I'll be repairing and maintaining the robots they use to make microchips. I live in Texas. It may give you the "country conservative" stereotype (and I can't deny that I AM a fairly die-hard conservative on a lot of issues) but most of the large cities have plenty of Bernie fans (including most of my coworkers at the bookstore). I think almost everyone I've encountered over here is united in despising Hillary, though. My girlfriend (whom you might have met briefly in the Pokemon tournament Fynn set up, she's Minato Arisato on here, though she doesn't post much) lives in LA, though we're hoping to be able to move her over here in about a year. My favorite games are RPGs. In order: Chrono Trigger, Golden Sun (I count the first two games as a single game), and Rune Factory 3 are my top titles. I'm interested in streaming a number of games, including: Shadows of Mordor, Mark of the Ninja, Doom, the Mass Effect trilogy, Kingdom Hearts 3 (once it finally comes out), Pokemon Sun/Moon (I hope my 3DS capture card arrives before release day), and others, including possibly some older games like Master of Orion 2, if there is enough interest. I'm building myself a new, top-end PC to handle streaming and video editing as my reward to myself for pushing through this semester of hell (4 classes and a full time job). I am going to have a very fixed schedule which includes half a week off every week (12 hour shifts, 3 days one week, 4 the next). So I'm hoping I can build a regular streaming and recording schedule. Though I work the night shift, so most of my content will be in the evening and early morning.
What other sorts of games are you into anyway? For that matter, where are you from? What do you do for a living? It occurred to me last night that we probably don't know enough about each other. It probably lends itself to heated arguments online when it's easier to think of people as an avatar instead of a person actually.
There are plenty of other games I'd love to LP, but I'm not sure how many others may gather people's interest. Or how much my play style may appeal to them. XCOM has the advantage of using my friends as characters, so it immediately draws the audience in somewhat. And I tend to play a lot of games just naturally as a completionist, so it's difficult for me to find the right pacing to keep the audience engaged when there's plenty of farming and repetition. I really need to work on my pacing for playing through a game.
Not everyone is going to reply to all posts sadly. It can be a bit discouraging but the more you post and everyone gets to know you and vice versa the better it gets I find. And I'd love to see you get back to the XCom 2 LP. Our of you're not enjoying it as much do another for the original (or enemy within if you have the expansion). The timed missions are definitely more stressful, but I will say they get less so as you progress. The sooner you have a full squad size at least the better. Once you're a few weapon of armour upgrades in its better still. Still stressful sometimes, but not as much because of the timer. Up to you though. I'd like to see you keep at it but if you're not feeling it then there's no pressure. Try something else instead of you're up to it.
My problem is that I post in a thread on a game, and then it gets no responses and I get lonely and think I'm the only one who cares about it. And there's not much (apart from games) that I want to talk about. Also, nearly free from work, and I graduated just a few days ago. Just two more days. I'll then be free to continue the LP. Though it might require a push. I'm not enjoying XCOM 2 as much as the original, mostly because I feel all the timed missions REALLY push the game too far. Too much stress, too much "must play perfectly".
Posting outside of academia isn't too hard. Just have to get in there and talk about something. There's usually some nonsense threads in general gaming going on. Asking opinions on things and whatnot. Light and easy stuff but opportunity for conversation. No need to be scared since we all feel a bit awkward putting ourselves out there sometimes. Just give it a shot. It's rare for things to get heated outside of academia. Just use lot's of emoticons if you're being sarcastic. I've learned that the hard way.
And I myself can tend to be an antisocial twit. I need to try to push myself more to get to know people outside of Academia, but I'm typically too scared, or can't think of anything good to say. So we both have places to improve.
