  1. Yeah that's what this game is like. In Zero you play the second generation as the son of the couple from the first generation. The first one goes on for like five generations. Sorry the games make you feel weird though. Well to each his own I guess . I loved matchmaking in Fire Emblem Awakening because I got to choose the couples and who I thought worked best instead of having a couple forced on me that I might not like.

In this game, I'm playing as if I were the main character, as opposed to specifically aiming for one particular one, even though I do have a favourite bachelorette, so we'll see who I end up with in the end. If it makes you feel any better, in this game, you can pay a fortune teller to show you what your kid will look like, including stats and weapons, and her predictions change as you customize the characters and such. I might have to look in to Phantasy Star Generations if it does something like that too.

So what do you think of the matchmaking in a game like Harvest Moon :P
  2. Reminds me of Phantasy Star Generations (or PSIII for short). Not really very loved by the fans, but it was totally unique and different, in that you play as 3 different heroes throughout the game, each one the son of the last, and each one has like 2 or 3 ladies they can woo throughout their short story and it changes who the next son will be and what their abilities will be. Or something to that effect

I feel weird about games like that for some reason. Probably because I feel weird about the idea of having kids of my own. There's also a small completionist side to me, and I don't like that I won't be able to experience certain things in a single playthrough, especially of longer games. Or that I may like these two characters and want them to be together, but it's really possible I could be building a relationship that spawns me the worst possible hero and not even know it That lingering fear kinda holds me back

I really had no intention of actively trying to pursue relationships in Fire Emblem Awakening because of that. Which is sad. Not sure why I'm wired that way. Just felt like I was going to be missing out on things, and some weird part of my brain decided that well, might as well miss out on EVERYTHING, and have yet to finish the game lol So dumb

But I am glad those games exist. They open the doors to very dynamic gameplay. Hopefully one day I'll get to enjoy one

Not sure what my favorite Persona 4 character is. Probably the first dude friend you get. Yosuke. He's the butt of a lot of jokes, but they make his character realistic and charming. He deals with real issues about how he's not living up to expectations and he jokes around because he has no confidence and stuff. Really well fleshed out. And so friendly and giving kind and generous and amusing. It's hard to describe. It's funny, since I can't tolerate to romance the girl who's voice they ruined, I joked about "I'll just romance Yosuke, then!" and was half serious. All the characters are super likable. But he's like a kindred spirit character. I really appreciate him. Unfortunately you only play as a guy, and Yosuke isn't down with that xD So it's a bust lol
  3. Its very much anime based and has a fair amount of fan service. It's not really that deep either. But I think the characters are cute and likeable, I enjoy the dating sim aspect, and I like being able to make choices and see who it improves my relationships with. The only problem I have is that its HARD, which is not something I'm a fan of. Plus since its a tactics game, every fight takes a good 5-10 minutes, as opposed to games like FF where a fight will take a minute or two. But the upside is that just 2 levels will make a huge difference in combat, as opposed to FF games which take about 5 before you notice a difference.

I want to try the first one because it has like 4-5 generations of matchmaking and I'm all like

So far my favourite character is Alice:

She isn't one of the bachelorettes but I'm surprisingly okay with that

I might look in to Persona 4. Who's your favourite character?
  4. I actually just played half of Digital Devil Saga myself. It was interesting and trippy but didn't have a whole lot of substance. Very little to the story or characters or location. But all the same I was mildly mesmerized by the dark weirdness

Persona 4 is probably the most likely one you'd enjoy. It is bright and colorful except on the foggy or rainy days. The characters are well crafted and amusing and likable. And there's an easy mode for just enjoying the story

Though it is kinda dark since you're a high school student who feels obligated to investigate super natural murders occurring in your little town

It amuses me that you have a good grasp on the types of games I'll enjoy. I think you're right. I've looked into Agarest and it caught my curiosity but I don't believe I'd spend much time with it. So I haven't taken the dive
  5. Ohh I love RPG's with dating sims. Playing Record of Agarest War Zero right now (don't think it would be your cup of tea though :P) but the Persona series kinda scares me. I played that Digital Devil Saga game and it gave me nightmares and I'm afraid of most Atlus games now unless they're visibly bright and cheery

Sucks that they changed things for the worst though :<
  6. Trying out Persona 4: Golden. One of the main reasons I got a VitaTV, since our PS2 has power issues and likes to randomly shut off in the middle of a gaming session. I wasn't able to finish the original Persona 4. And they've drastically changed the voices of one of the main characters. The character I was originally pursuing a romance with. It's rather jarring to hear them all high pitched and whiny and hyper. Makes me sad that they went from an actual character to just a generic anime trope Hopefully the other additions to the game makes up for it. And I'll just romance someone else :3
  7. sup homie
  8. Yeah, Skies of Acadia was one of those games I really badly wanted to love. It was so pretty and interesting. I loved the style and ideas and characters and even forgave the generic encounters and battle system. I don't remember loving or hating the ship battles but I definitely appreciated the uniqueness. It was a refreshing change of pace from most JRPGs. But even the toned down GameCube version was too much tedium for me :/ I burned out pretty quick I think. But it's one that I'm still happy to own. I financially supported its existence. Too bad there was never a follow up with a more refined sequel I could have gotten into a little easier
  9. I'm awful at difficult games, but I might check out an LP, it does sound interesting!

I'm actually enjoying Skies of Arcadia a good bit. It can get pretty tedious at times, the dungeons can get very "WHERE IS THE SAVE WHEN IS THIS OVER I WANT TO GO HOME" and I dislike the ship battles, but those aren't poorly done, they just aren't in my taste. But I'm about halfway done now and the story really picked up and I like the three main characters. Its also very cute and sweet and campy
  10. It gets really hard :/ and no way to change difficulty. But I'd recommend maybe watching a let's play. I think you'd like the game. The best thing I can compare it to is Fire Emblem Awakening. The characters are so well portrayed and likable and their evolution as characters regarding their friendships and romantic interests are so well done. There is an anime that possibly does it justice. I haven't seen it yet. It also has playable versions of cameo characters from Skies of Arcadia lol

My renewed craving to get the third game patched and running inspired my girlfriend to give the first one another go before trying that one. And she? Managed to beat that battle and went through a whole new chapter and it just renewed my love for the characters and world. I may not be good at the game but I am so thankful it exists lol
