Nice to see they're expanding U.S. accents from just Southern/Texas hick and New York/Jersey punk. Though California doesn't have much of an accent in reality, it's more based off the surfer/skater movements from the 80s and early 90s.
Btw, reached a town where people use, like, totally Californian syntax and stuff. I can't help but hear it as in SNL's "Californians"
Honestly, at that point in the movie I don't think anything we see is actually supposed to be taken at face value and is instead some smurfed up metaphor about how Anno hates his fans or something. It's weird.
That's still a big if, and it doesn't really change the fact the world is devastated by everything.
Pretty sure it was stated that anyone with a strong enough will can get out of the sea. So it was more like, it's a hellhole now but it'll get better, probably
I kind of felt EoE was more of a downer. He rejects instrumentality but is left in a real troutty world with someone who who basically loves and hates him the giant corpse of his cloned mother staring at him. Not very cheery or hopeful in my mind. I don't know, I always felt that Tabris was always benevolent and honest with Shinji, even in the series. Perhaps that's just me though.
I agree, though you have to admit his portrayal is far more unambiguously benevolent and kind in the movies. And I agree on the ending, and I actually think even EoE has this ray of hope to it. But by the end of 3.0 it does look like this might be heading to a happy ending that's actually stable and built up towards, with characters actually doing something right instead of an ephemeral "in your head" ending. I had most of the manga volumes, actually, as they even got published in Poland. Will have to check out the later chapters.
I don't feel like he's much different beyond screen time. If you want a happy ending to Eva, read the manga adaption. It's largely more optimistic that the series and films. Though I do imagine the Rebuild will end on a better note. Course I felt the series ended on a good note until the movies retcon it.
I'm pretty sure he got depressed after making 3.0 rather than during it Also, I may be in the minority here, but I kinda wish we get a happy ending this time XD I also read some trivia on tvtropes and I find it interesting that 4chan tends to dislike the Rebuild version of Kaoru, while the tumble crowd vastly prefers him to the original.
I don't know, we get interesting stuff out of him when he's depressed.
