Conversation Between Fynn and Wolf Kanno

  1. I don't know, I feel it was really more the kingdom honoring the debt they owed to the guy for helping them back then, and its obvious the people trying to keep the area from being explored was simply the guys descendants from his brother. Also I found it kind of sad he built a robot to love him in the stead of his dead lover only to turn around and now have this immortal machine programed to take care of him is left with no raison d'etre because her master is gone.

I don't know, it may have to do with the issue that robotics and A.I.s are probably the closest to a non-blasphemous analogy mankind will have with God, sure she's only programmed to take care and a bit of radio interference could turn her into a murder machine but you can't fault her for not being more human when you think about the limitations of her creator. Yes, the whole thing was handled better in Chrono Trigger but it's not like Yuji Horii is a great writer in the first place.
  2. That's good to hear! Being back in neutral, I mean. I've never taken on the optional bosses in DDS so I wonder how hard they are.

Too bad about SMT IV tho. The good thing is that I'll probably be getting it for Christmas as well, so we can keep each other updated on where we are

As for DQ, yeah, that was a bit sad but I don't think it warranted the reaction everyone had to it. I mean, damn, the poor machine is wasting its life away by doing something completely futile and you're trying to tell me letting it stay in this limbo is the kind thing to do? The hell?

Not to sound too cynical, because I actually think it's possible for AIs to possess souls in the future, but I really think everyone talking about the robot as if it were human was really getting ahead of themselves. There was nothing to suggest it was personally attached to Autonymus - heck, the fact that it was ready to serve Ambrose instead even disproves it, as that means they were pretty much interchangeable in its eyes. It does say "thank you" but that doesn't have to mean anything since it does respond to people as part of its initial programming and you did help it get back to doing what it was supposed to do.

I mean, you'd expect a soulless machine to just keep doing what it's meant to do until it dies. But instead of trying to work it so it does something actually useful, everyone's like "this territory is off limits! Do not go there! No one must know why even though it's just that there's a robot that keeps bringing soup to a dead body and that's how it's meant to be forever!"

Idk, I was disappointed. Probably mostly because I've seen people say it's "omg so messed up" but really it was just "eh". I was expecting a twist, especially since they said there's a whole chunk of history missing, which I thought was foreshadowing to something big. Then there's also the fact that the game tried to push mindless, unquestioned sentimentalism as the right thing to do which just made me go ugggghhhhhhh
  3. Also, I'm still fighting off optional bosses currently in DDS. I just beat Frost King and Beelezebub's human/ogre form and now I'm hunting down his Fly form. Afterwards, I'll deal with Karma Tower since the last couple of bosses don';t show up until I beat the second to last boss.

In SMT1, I've killed the former leaders of the Gaians and Messiand, and I am safely back on the Neutral Route for good. I did reach the Cathedral where both heroes try to sway you to help but I ran into too many succubus and had to restart so I'll have to go through Ginza again to reach the Cathedral and undertake the quest to beat the Four Lords before Tokyo is flooded.

Also, fate intervened today and I won't be using my gift card to pick up SMTIV: Apocalypse because I couldn't find it at my favorite game store the gift card is from. Besides, I really have too many games in my backlog (like Soul Hackers and Persona Q I still need to play) so I'll wait and see if I can get the game for Christmas instead.
  4. I think its the part where the robot woman the scientist made is still trying to "take care of him" despite being nothing but a pile of bones comes across a bit sad when you think about it.
  5. So I beat the mech chapter, past and present and... I really don't get what was so dark about it? If anything, I think the course the game made you take was pretty stupid.
  6. Most of the remakes have toned down the amount of battles in the series in terms of Gold and XP needed to stay functional. I mean the remakes of DQI largely halved the amount of gold needed for most items in shops and the remakes of all of the NES entries remove the randomized chests in exchange for pre-determined treasure. Not to mention the introduction of stat altering items from the Super Famicom entries.

In DQVII's case, I've heard they have lowered the amount of battles needed to level up the classes, not to mention the removal of the inheritance skills system means most players will probably not waste their time remastering old classes. I just hope they improved the drop rates for Monster Hearts or changed the system around a bit, because Monster Jobs were the real headache of the original for a completionist.
  7. Just like every DQ game, really.

Though I've heard that the switch to symbol encounters has actually fixed that for DQ VIII. Apparently, now the exp gain is much bigger, so there's no real need to stop and grind anymore
  8. It probably won't be so bad since the job system has been changed a bit. In reality it only really affected Maribel and Melvin at first. Aria had some issues as well but that had more to do with her arriving last in the party.

Grinding is what this game is all about.
  9. Yeah, I heard. DQVI pulled none of that, thankfully, since whoever joined you stayed pretty much throughout the entire game.

Still, that's nothing some good old grinding can't help with
  10. No, his early levels have lower requirements, he'll catch up pretty quickly. Its Job classes that become more of a problem later on and Gabo/Ruff is the only character besides the hero who won't have issues catching up on that issue.
