Conversation Between Fynn and Pumpkin

  1. The troubles of being a gamer

I need to get life stuff done soon but for now it's all on hiatus until stuff so I'm piling on the games while I can!
  2. So I guess I'll ask you when I have the free time.

And yes, I am enjoying BG immensely, which is why I gave you the recommendation It's one of those games that's even better the second time around, since I was new to the genre when I first started, and I know the game system a lot better now. Plus, the new characters look really cool so far.

I even took a break from Persona Q to play it now and besides it, I have two games that I've started and put off - those being Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations and FFXIII (chapter 9 is sooooooo boring). I also wanna start Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and play some more Curtain Call, so I want it to be summer already soooo bad
  3. Sounds like you're having fun with your game!

I have a ton of games I could recommend, just depends what you're in the mood for!
  4. I'm trying to think of cases like that, and I'm drawing a blank. Cloud had a love triangle in FFVII, but he was still in the center of it. What can you do?

Also, while the romance sidequest is a big, nicely written part of BG2 with quite a large effect on the main story, the game isn't really a dating sim, so if you ever start playing it, don't just jump into playing a guy because of the romance options. You create your own avatar that you really get to role play (you get tons of dialog options that influence the flow of the story), so there's much more to their character than just who they romance.

Anyway, got any more fun games like that to recommend? Once I finish my exams at the end of June, I might try them out
  5. I agree. Sometimes it's nice to shift the focus to the other characters
  6. That does sound fun! Not every game we play has to be deep and angsty, it's great to sometimes play something that's dumb fun for a change. I love the Sims for similar reasons - it's not a particularly intelligent game, but you get to play around with (and mess up) your imaginary people's lives and relationships.

One thing I love about the above mentioned love pentagon is something that I wish happened more in games - not all love triangles (or romances in general) focus on you. I wanna see more cases where your character is interested in a person who is interested in someone else or maybe your best friend is interested in them first. Just to get the feel that, you know, you're not the center of the universe and panties don't just fly in your direction specifically because you're the player character. I want more side-romances for NPCs, is what I think I'm getting at
  7. The first one is Xbox 360 and the other two are also available on PS3. That does sound like an interesting resolution to a love rectangle I like how more people just keep joining in

Also, I got this super cheap silly game on steam called Kitty Powers Matchmaker a while ago so I decided to try it out. Oh my gosh it's funny. You basically have clients you need to set up on dates based on taste and interest and then you do little mini-games and a while later it'll tell you if they broke up or whatever. And it does have gay options! One of my favourite couples had like 5 kids but another couple I really liked broke up :/

It's not very deep but it is some silly fun
  8. That sounds kinda neat You said girl 1 in gen 3 has terrible fashion sense! I can't really see it on that pic. I think she looks kinda cool Is this game Xbox exclusive? If so, I may not ever have the chance to play it

The male romance options in BG also have some interesting twists. If you have the original three romanceable girls in your party (or any two of them) and start taking conversations down the romantic route with all of them, they will start fighting with each other until the triangle (rectangle?) is resolved. To throw an additional wrench into that, there's this bard character who is always romantically interested in Aerie, the girl I chose ok my last playthrough, potentially making that into a love pentagon. Depending on your choices, it can have different outcomes too.
  9. In the first Agarest War game you play through 5 generations (it's a looooong game), in the second (Agarest Zero, a prequel) you have 2 generations, and in Agarest 2 you have 3 generations.

Each generation you have 3 bachelorettes. You get points towards you relationships with them by selections you make in game. Sometimes these are obvious, like "Who do you want to take a walk with, girl A, B, or C?" so you know what you'll end up with. On the other hand, decisions that don't directly involve them also affect the relationships. Like "The enemy has moved troops to the frontline. Do you A) charge the frontline B) sneak around the side C) withdraw for now?". And your decision will affect who gets affection points because some women might value cation or some might value courage more. And the points aren't the most straightforward. Like picking option A might increase girl 1's relationship by 1 and girl 2's by 2 and it will take a point away from girl 3. So I do like taht it's a bit less obvious who you'll end up with if you don't use a guide.

The girl you end up with also ends up being the mother of the hero of the next generation who will be matched with one of the next 3 bachelorettes

Gen 1: A) Girl who's village was destroyed and her family killed. She's very angry and hell bent on revenge. B) Was also orphaned in the war. She does her best to act cheerful, but she's very violent underneath it, she just hides it better. C) A childhood friend of the hero who ends up his enemy before taking a moral stand. The first generation suffers from pushing you too much towards one character and leaving the other two with little development.
Gen 2: A) Childhood friend who tries to kill you after you become an outlaw. B) A priestess whose village you saved. Very sweet but shy. C) A skilled fighter, very flirtatious and mischievous, but underneath it she hates the war she's forced to fight. Two of the bachelorettes in gen 2 were incredibly well written and I had a hard time picking a favourite.

Gen 3 so far suffers from having the third bachelorette feeling a bit disjointed from the story compared to the other two, but the characters are good overall.

Agarest Zero only has two generations, so less matchmaking but more time to get to know your potential partners.

I might have to play a dude in Baldur's Gate then it sounds like. At least they do have a lesbian option!
  10. So you actually play through several generations in this game? What romance options did you get in the previous?

Also, if you ever play BG, there's only one lesbian character, so if you wanted to romance the girls, you'd need to play a guy. Women used to have only one option who was downright insufferable, but now they also get Dorn, that lesbian lady and another nice monk dude, so they're all pretty okay now.
