  1. Well, maybe you'll be able to hop into it later
  2. Yeah, I'm liking it more than I thought I would, still disappointed I can't play Silver, as I really did enjoy what I got to play of it.
  3. I think Poochyena gets some dark moves layer, but still, both it and Zigzagoon are still the Rattatas of this game and become obsolete at a certain point. Shame, since I really love Poochyena and its design.

Glad you like it! I used to have mixed feeling about gen III. On the one hand it was fresh and new and I really dig the new Pokemon, the world felt really alive compared to the previous, but I missed the features from Gold that didn't make it. Pokemon abilities are a really cool thing to introduce, I think, since they really set Pokemon apart now. In general, despite my initial reservations, I still consider these games very good since they kind of make up for the stuff missing with cool Pokemon and a big, diverse region that really feels alive.
  4. Apparently it has something to do with a complex algorithm based on their personality, gender, and some other factor, though it would make sense to make it easier on players by setting it so that capturing two of them automatically makes it so they are different.

I've been enjoying it. Oddly enough, despite my dislike of the starters designs, I've actually liked all of the more common mon designs so far. Though I wish Poochyena had a better movelist cause he's kind of underwhelming so far, relaying solely on stats to get the job done, whereas the racoon mon has a lower physical attack but being a normal type lets him get STAB privileges, so he's actually on par or out-damaging the poor thing. I'm digging the seagull mon. The Nut Mon is weird, having Bind instead of standard Scratch/Tackle physical moves makes him interesting to play with, thankfully he gains levels rather easily.
  5. Well yeah, when it comes to new Pokemon introduced, that may be so, but gen II contains pretty much all the Kanto and Johto Pokemon, while gen VI just has a crapload of different Pokemon at every route - which I actually wasn't that big a fan of.

wally is kind of... a special case. They've actually changed his presence quite significantly for the remake which I thought was quite lame. I mean, it worked, but I think the way it's implemented in the original gen III games is much more effective.

you mean Surskit, right? It's pretty cool, though it's kind of interesting in that I think it's original form has a much more interesting typing than its evolution. And I actually think it's pretty common that when you catch two Wurmole they'll usually evolve into two different cocoons. I think it's still pretty unclear what really determines their evo.

so how would you say you're enjoying Ruby so far?
  6. Gen V is apparently the Gen that introduced the most Fire Types, with Gen IV having the fewest.

I caught a Ralts, which appears to be the Abra of this game. I also seriously lucked out and had the two Larva Pokemon I picked up evolve into the different cocoon evolutions, meaning I won't have to farm them to fill out the Pokedex. I also caught what turned out to be a rare Pokemon before Petalburg, some kind of water walker spider thing.

I'm currently trying to level everyone before I move onto the first gym. I've already met the MC's Dad and Wally, who I assume is the rival character in this game.
  7. Come to think of it, fire types were never abundant. Gen VI and gen II have a lot overall but that's because those two have both pretty much the largest Pokemon variety in the series.
  8. I've also decided that I'm going to raise a Vulpix to transfer to my copy of Pearl in order to make up for not going with Chimchar and to save me the trouble of having to rely solely on Ponyta for my Fire Type in this game. Looking over it, Gen III doesn't have much in the way of Fire Types either, which kind of surprises me considering Team Magma and all.
  9. He's not bad so far. He's still kind of cute. Shame I don't care for his evolved forms designs.

I've caught a Poochyena, Zigzagoon (who is the most adorable Ratatta expy I've seen in the series) and a Wurmple, whom intrigues me because of the diverging evolution lines.
  10. Fire rooster is great
