Will deal with the Elite Four and Blue tomorrow, but I plan on starting Silver as soon as I finish.
I think primates just remind me too much of people, not surprisingly of course. It's probably just the misanthrope in me.
Aw Well, I love gorillas but wasn't a huge fan before I started studying linguistics and when I heard of Coco the gorilla I instantly knew that gorillas are the best due to how fierce looking they are despite being incredibly loving, calm, empathetic, and most of all smart. They may not be as cute or majestic as canines and felines. But I find them beautiful nonetheless.
Nope, they might be my favorite primate, but that's not saying much. I've never cared for any of them. I prefer cats, canines, and bears over them when it comes to large predatory land animals. I also have a love/hate relationship with bugs.
Not even gorillas?
Monkeys and hooved animals I tend to dislike. I generally prefer more carnivorous creatures with fur. Though I also love reptiles and aquatic creatures.
Oh yeah, that makes sense. I generally dislike grass as a type as well since they mostly rely on status changing and draining moves, and I kinda want my starters to have more, ahem, firepower. Surprised you don;t like monkeys since they're always my favorite point of any zoo aside from the big cats! But to each their own, I guess But yeah, I also usually prefer designs that are similar to animals I like. And since I like a lot of animals, that's a lot XD Mostly biased towards mammals though, I feel, which really makes me glad that fire types have always been mammals snce generation IV (and gen II also had a mammal, so yay!)
I'm generally accepting of most designs, it really comes down to memorability with other factors though I did notice I have a type bias as going through most of the starters, I noticed I generally hated the Grass type designs more often. In other places it comes down to animals. Piplup is a water/penguin which is both an element I like and animal I like. I'm bias against the other two because while the turlte thing is cool cause I love turtles, I don't care for Grass typing and it's evolution line is a wee bit too similar to Bulbasaur for my taste. Chimchar on the other hand kind of bothers me because I do like Fire types but I really hate primates of any kind. They are one of my least favorite animals that other people adore for some reason. I'm even more annoyed because of that game's lack of fire types until significantly later in their game.
In general, I find I'm very accepting of all designs. Each generation has a different aesthetic to it and I really don't think there ever was one that offended me or something, as I know some people say. There's the two memes - either "I stopped playing Pokemon when they start looking like Neo Pets" and "Back in my day Pokemon were based on dragons, birds and mythical beasts, while now they're based on chandeliers, gears and ice cream. All I'm saying is I feel bad for the kids today." Really, all gens have good and bad designs and I know it sound super lame but I liked them all and I don't think I've ever disliked a starter's design Heck, the only reason I like the gen I designs the least is due to how a lot of people react to it. Which is kinda sad and I wish I could handle it better
Frankly, I'm pretty cool with all of their designs this gen. Far cry better than Gen V.
