Oh yeah, I also think I may be at a much higher level than I was the last time I was at this spot in Strange Journey. I'm level 61 already, so that feels high. Probably thanks to all the Fiend hunting.
Yeah, I think I always did the Fuchsia gym first as well.
Sweet, only Pale Rider itself and them Trumpeter, and Mother Harlot are left for you. Geodude finally evolved to a Graveller, and despite my better judgement, I've benched him for Machop who is also a few levels away from evolving. Meowth is also close to evolving but tends to either fare well in battle or get completely murdered. There is no inbetween for him. Machop is in the same boat. Volteon finally learned Thundershock, so she's much more useful now, and I finally obtained my Poliwag. Actually two since I need to trade one to get Jinx. I've already grinded about ten levels for it so it's only a few levels away from evolving as well. Ivysaur is also three levels from becoming a Venusaur, meaning I can bench it for Charmeleon or Wartortle next. I sneaked down to Fuchsia City and played a little while in the Safari Zone but I'm now sneaking back up to finish Saffron city because all of my Pokemon are higher level. Though part of me is thinking about doing the Gym down here before coming back up to deal with Silph Corp and the Psychic Gym.
Oh cool! So who's close to evolving? And it's still better than my first playthrough. When I first played Red as a kid, I used the one-man army strategy with my Charizard. It was definitely an uphill battle, but still very doable! BTW, beat Black Rider no problem yesterday. As I expected, spamming Acid Rain prevented him from ever casting Megido and four Luster Candies made the battle go down quick. I need to make sure whatever I fuse Mithras with inherits it.
Good for you! Yeah, the game is pretty grindy and it's difficult to do so if you're not fighting Pokemon you can one shot with their weakness allowing the unit to get all the XP. I had to drop Psyduck into the Nursery because he only has Scratch and doesn't learn anything remotely useful for another 20 levels. I'm starting to remember how I sometimes got doubles of Pokemon cause I would get them ASAP and then drop them for a random encounter in later sections with higher level versions. The only time it bite me in the ass was with Bellsprout, because his first move is Vine Whip and his later random encounter versions don't start with it. Right now I'm rolling with a Meowth, Geodude, Voltreon, Vulpix, Ivysaur, and Krabby. Well rounded but my levels are all over the place, making continuing the story a bit difficult at the moment.
Finally encountered him. On my 100th battle. Wow.
Ah, I forgot how grindy gen 1 is. Yellow was worse in many respects, like your Pikachu wouldn't evolve which was a hindrance since the gym leaders were beefed up. On the flip side, you got all three starters in-story, so
Lol, maybe I was interpreting as you reacting to how I said it in my head. I tried to do Sylph Co. building but my current party is a bit too underleveled at the moment to deal with it, so I'm grinding. Especially since two of my Pokemon are only two or three levels away from evolving.
Oh no, I was actually being sincere! "You'll do fine" is pretty comforting
I'm not the friend you go to for comforting words.
