My view is that most peoples (groups, not individuals) have committed atrocities at some point in history. Doesn't make it okay but you learn from it and move on. Pretending it never happened won't fix anything I might check it out
Yes. You don't show Poles as either martyrs of heroes and show that they too have commented atrocities in dark communist times, and suddenly the movie is anti-Polish. There's this huge swath of covert anti-semitism in Poland which I consider utterly shameful. Sigh. Still, I recommend the movie! It's pretty topical for you, since that's a similar time period.

BTW, we got an Oscar for Ida! That's a first for Poland and I'm really proud because it's a really great movie. Too bad a lot of right-wing extremists are shouting that the movie is "anti-Polish", whatever that means, and that this means that we are now under threat from the US government
