The boss isn't that bad actually, especially considering how broken half the cast in the game is. I believe my party used Richard the Maximillain Knights, Zerase, Viki, Miakies, and Kyle. Crushed that boss pretty well, the more challenging boss is the random mook boss that appears but he's worth taking out for the XP and the decent item drops.
I've heard the boss is pretty brutal. I always got Euram before because it's easier Or I just haven't gotten all the stars. That works too.
I've never gotten Euram since he's uttelry useless. I've gotten all 108 in my playthroughs. Eresh isn't too difficult since she's one of the best mages in the game behind Zerase.

Yeah it's pretty long, especially if you do the grinding. Just finished a playthrough of it this year myself.

Well I've been horribly sick and there's always people banging on my house and now the contractor went ahead and chose posts for the front of our house without running them by us first and they are hideous and I'm nervous about school but other than that it's been okay
