I'll keep it in mind, thanks
That sounds really intriguing! Gonna have to add that to my list of RPG series I have to check out one day SMT is this huge series if JRPGs that's as big in Japan as FF or DQ - basically, they define the genre. They're always on the harder scale of things, but SMTIV is probably the easiest to get into. First of all, you get access to an easy mode once you die twice. Second of all, the mechanics have been tweaked in a way that makes the beginning of the game actually be the hardest part - ironically, the game gets easier the farther you get Also, there's DLC that makes grinding for anything really fast and easy, so it's probably onE of the least challenging in the series. The games are all really dark (with IV being especially dark), dealing with themes with human morality, and so on. They're also pretty controversial, as the tyre actually the games that introduced the "religion is evil" trope that is so popular nowadays (you even fight God as the final boss in SMTII!), but in general nothing is black or white in these games, and whatever side you take, they all have flaws and fair points. So think more FFT than FFX in that religion theme XD So while I don't like their portrayal of good, nothing in these games is undeniably good or evil. All the games have a bigger focus on exploration and battles (with an interesting battle system focusing on exploiting weaknesses), but the stories are always excellent and well-written, with intriguing characters (and lots of strong females). You also rarely have an actual human party, instead convincing demons from various religions and mythologies to join you. So SMT IVtakes place in this mixed setting of a high medieval period and a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. It's super fun. I highly recommend it as a start to one of my favorite series of all time. Of that's too hard, PERSONA 3 on the PSP might be an even better place to start - it has a very easy noob mode to choose, plus it has a bigger focus on characters and the themes are not as controversial. And it takes place in a high school and has dating sim elements. And you can play as a girl. So yeah, it's much more light, but still deals with some pretty deep issues. Although Persona is kind of its own thing now, so if you play it, don't later expect SMT to be too similar
I might look in to it, I've heard a lot about it. Might be a good addition to my top games list. Is it difficult though? What's it about? Star Ocean is about people exploring space. It's kind of sci-fi meets fantasy. In some games you're on a primitive world, in some you travel between different worlds. I've played the remake of the second one, part of the third one, and this is the fourth. This one is actually a prequel to the others and takes place very shortly after people leave Earth and start exploring space. So far I've traveled to a good number of different areas.
I have not played a Star Ocean game in my life. What are they about? SMT is an incredible game too, my too ten easily, even taking into account that little frustration factor. One of the most actually mature games I've ever played, as opposed to, you know, grit-and-violence-and-sex "mature".
Aww sorry Fynn I'm playing Star Ocean The Last Hope and absolutely loving it. It's made it to my top 20
I have become frustrated with Shin Megami Tensei IV, because I appear to have locked myself into the law alignment, which I did not want to get. I need to restart if I want to go neutral. I am so mad because I did my best to be neutral and now I'm gonna have to do what those dickhead angels tell me to
Ugh I have this awful habit of reading your VMs before bed and then forgetting to answer the next day, sorry >.< I like dis one the best:
Hey, you repped my pic, thanks! I drew my chaos-aligned characters in there. They turned out just the way I wanted them to look - except for Chance, that's not really the face structure I was going for. Anyway, who's your favorite design out of those? Candy's chapter is already writte and I'm writing Michel's now, so you'll soon get to meet them all
I don't actually mind the gameplay (although the Gear fights were pretty stressful until you got to refill the fuel and thAT GODDAMN TOWER OF BABEL ASSFGHHTSC). What really bugged me was the pacing of it all. I'm mean, in general I like mood whiplash, but when your hero saving the day after one of the character's zombie dad commits suicide is mothersmurfing Chu-Chu inflated to Gear size, then what the hell. And the Nisan music was mind-boggingly terrible, I don't even know why. I just hated it.
No problem. People get busy, this isn't a live chat :P I'm in the same boat. Looove the story, like the character development, gameplay is poo poo
