  1. Nostalgia is a powerful motivator.
  2. That would be interesting! If nothing else, just for nostalgia's sake.
  3. Shining Force was a tactical RPG that would be similar to Final Fantasy Tactics at a very simple level. Originally for Sega Genesis, it was an enjoyable game but, given how much games have improved over the years, it would be interesting to revisit it with an improved plot.
  4. I'm not using graphics from Revenant Wings though; I'm making them all from scratch. It'll be completely different. The only thing that I'm using from the original game is the music.

Well, the issue with Revenant Wings is that it was basically a brand new game. Wellno, it wasn't, but I'll explain that in a sec. The characters aren't themselves, you're only ever on Ivalice once (after which you're promptly transported to a sky continent that's recently become visible, along with its inhabitants), the battle system is horrid, and the story itself is empty, taking the passenger seat and letting the battle system take the driver's seat. If you play Heroes of Mana, or even just look at it, and compare it with Revenant Wings, it's easy to see that Revenant Wings was just a subtle remake of Heroes of Mana, but with Final Fantasy XII characters.

    How is Shining Force? O:
  5. Hmm, I never played Revenant Wings. But if we're talking about originality, why would you take a game and revisit it? Not very custom!

Seriously though, I get what you're saying. I'd like to take the old Shining Force games and really step them up since they were pretty bland as far as story goes. :-\
  6. Yeah, I suppose that works just as well XD
But for a truly custom feel, that won't work! I guess that it's a matter of taste :3

I'm currently working on a revisit to Revenant Wings. I loved FFXII, but Revenant Wings was horrid. The systems were pretty neat, but the story was just... just... so... bad.
  7. Or I could take the defaults and edit them to my liking. xD
  8. I understand what you're saying completely. Under the same logic then, even harshly-made, easy to make graphics would work as well as stock graphics, and then they'd be all yours!
  9. I don't know; I think it just has to do with me not really playing games for the look of them but for the cool things you can do with menus or in battle. Haha, I'm much more of a stats and story freak than anything else really. But yeah, I totally love the high of further development.
  10. Oh, but it's so much more satisfying! It gives you complete control over the look and feel of the game. You know that feeling that progressing on the project gives you. Well, when you make your own resources, it's like that, but times ten. I'll make sure that I link you to the thread when we post it! Currently, the game is titled Beyond the Dead Roads, but I'm messing around with a few different titles.
