  1. It's better to teach kids by enforcing good behavior with positive consequences whenever possible. Giving people things to strive for rather than things to avoid always yields better results. Just look at the failure of the prison system... 66% of inmates return to prison within three years because they're only trying to avoid punishment, and haven't learned how to yield positive consequences through proper behavior. No one is teaching them good things happen when you behave.

    ...causes children to only avoid punishment, it justifies hitting them. Which I find stupid. So question: does 'avoiding punishment' really just mean avoiding negative reinforcement? You have always said to just take the kid from the environment until they calm down but I'm not sure if the two are related (if I scream in public mommy will take me away from the toy store).
