I haven't played the demo for either, but I heard the second one is really worth it as it's more like chapter 0 for Bravely Second. You still shouldn't play it before you beat BD because spoilers
As am I. So I do need to get back to 4 Heroes so I can start BD. Hell I even have the demo for BD2 on my 3DS right now.
Definitely. I'm a big fan of deconstruction, personally, so I'm very fine with that
I almost feel like that is what the BD/4H team is trying to do with the series, just deconstruct the classic FF games.

Can't speak for Bravely Second just yet, but Bravely Default also nicely deconstructs the classic crystals narrative. Sadly, that leads into the game's fatal flaw, but I still think that it works great with the narrative. The religion of evil that has been done to death in JRPGs is also handled incredibly well!
It's not a bad game, but I can understand why it didn't set the world on fire either since it's game mechanics are truly old school. The story is actually pretty interesting because it deals with what happens when the Crystals choose someone who eventually rejects the call because it's made their life miserable. The world doesn't seem so bad at first but you do progressively make it worse trying to "help" until you finally get the idea to call this hero out of early retirement. Then the trout hits the fan.
I have to play that someday!
I need to get back to 4 Heroes of Light, I actually just crossed the big plot twist of the game and now I'm actually dealing with the real villains instead of making the world a more terrible place for once.
Yeah, thought you might like that Though I know that there is a way to get all the missing jobs much later, but all that is still entirely optional. Actually, besides the first four and penultimate four jobs, none of the jobs in Bravely Default were necessary. Still, it's a pretty great series so far and I hope they keep making more. Default had one gigantic flaw but was pretty excellent besides that, and now I see Second has even more improved gameplay, I hear that one flaw is gone, but sadly, the composer and lead writer have been replaced. The music has grown on me, however, and the writing seems good so far with some of the meta stuff kept in, so we'll see how it goes later. So you just have to play these once you get 4 Heroes of Light over with
