  1. Happy to see you got best Sig among a lot of the other Ciddies. Almost feel like you and Pumpkin are sweeping this awards for the most part.
  2. Congration on to get Best FF Poster the Ciddie. A winner is you!
  3. I found VIII to be technically interesting in terms of how they did the world and game set up but I found the customization a step back from VII (as you know, I'm partial to job class systems) and the story is certainly more involving than most DQ games but I actually preferred the plots to earlier installments. Not a bad game, I just feel the series did better and the game is better known for making the DQ series finally reach the modern era of game design.
  4. And how did you find VIII?
  5. It's more story driven than the earlier games but my issue is that the chapters are uneven in content, its a bit annoying restarting the game with five different protagonists, and what little story is setup in the first four chapters never has any emotional payoff since the whole cast goes mute once the main hero is introduced in Chapter 5. Conceptually its an interesting game but if you want a story driven RPG, the FF and Phantasy Star series are better.
  6. That's actually an opinion I've been hearing a lot. Although the other half of the fanbase calls IV the best RPG on the NES so Idk what to think
  7. III and V I'm the most partial to, though VII is pretty good as well. IV is my least favorite.
  8. So which one do you like the most?
  9. DQIII introduces a job class system and its world map is loosely based on the real world. It also has a surprising twist 2/3rds into the game. It is one of my favorite games in the series for being pretty groundbreaking for its time.

DQIV uses an interesting Chapter setup, where the game is split into five chapters (six in the DS) each chapter focusing on a party member and their story until Chapter 5 introduces the hero and he collects the companions from the previous chapters. Some chapters like Torneko also have some interesting gamplay mechanics like running an armor/weapon shop.

Dragon Quest V deals with the story of a boy helping his father seek out the Legendary Hero. What's interesting about this game is that the story goes through the heroes life, starting when he's about five years old and ending after he is married and has his own family. The character has the ability to befriend monsters and so it plays a bit like SMT/Pokemon where your party is mostly composed of monsters you've recruited.

DQVI, I haven't played but I know it uses a Real World/Dream World mechanic for the story and gameplay. It also brings the Job Class system from III but it expands it and adds elements of FFV's version.

DQVII deals with a fisher's son who lives on the small island of Estard, which is the only piece of land in the whole world, the rest being ocean. He dreams along with his friends to leave and go have adventures. They explore some forbidden ruins on the island for fun and unlock a portal to another world. The game expands the Job Class system from DQVI even further and was the game that introduced the SIM City mini-game.

I think you mentioned playing DQVIII, so IX is about a rookie Guardian Angel who has to help mortals in order to gain Benevolence from them in order to feed the World Tree in their sky city until it bears fruits. An accident occurs when the tree finally bears fruit and the Angel wakes up back on the mortal world, now as an actual mortal who has lost most of his heavenly power. The game utilizes a new Job Class system that takes its cues from FFXI with elements of DQVIII's Weapon system. It also brings back the Party Tavern where you can make your own party like DQIII.
  10. So I just nreached the old continend from DQ I in DQ II. That was surprising and really cool. I also get the feeling that this game is much longer. Which is actually good, since DQ I was too short.

Can you give me a rundown of what's interesting about all the other DQ games? I know they're mostly the same, but I'd like to know what's different ab obut them.
