I've heard pretty good things about it. If Steam has a demo, I may check it out.
You can always get in on steam or on Wii U. My wife got it for me on the Vita for my birthday, and while I was looking forward to it, it didn't really look THAT interesting to me at first. But the more I play it, the more hooked I an. I really am feeling as if I'm a kid again playing FF for the first time, and I really have no idea why.
No, I had the demo on my PS3 but never got around to playing it due to my interest being elsewhere at the time. Since the PS3 is dead, I'm probably not going to get around to it anytime soon.

Figure I should mix it up a bit.
The DS ones just blend into the background for me, but it may be due to not having played the original. Remixes and arrangements don't quite have the same "wow" factor if you're not familiar with the original.
It's nice, I'll admit, but I have to disagree about the DS version's soundtrack. The arrangements are pretty creative with some unexpected instrumentations, which I really enjoyed. The boss theme sounds amazing in any version, though. The original, the DS version, and the remixes for FFI PSP and Dissidia are all stellar.
