Hmm... That is a good point. We'll see how it works out.
Well if the world is going to hell eventually a la MegaTen like it sounds like you could just as easily have a conversation like this: New guy: so do you have a last name with that? *main character and new guy look at the living hell they are in now* Main character: Yeah, but would knowing it matter? New guy: I guess not...
I might use placeholders in notes, or something. The worst thing is, the setting is a fictional place in our world, 20 minutes into the future, so they really should have last names, I just can't really make myself make them up. We'll see how it works if I don't use last names.
I feel setting helps, I have stories where the characters have no last name but it's due to the setting making last names a bit impractical. The novel I'm working on deals with family lines and history so they are important for symbolic and plot reasons. If you didn't give them one, I don't see why you should unless you want to just give it to them in your notes but never address it in the story for the reasons you stated.
That's kind of another big issue I have. In the long-term novel, none of my characters have last name. I'm afraid that might be weird, but on the other hand, at this point any last names would feel awkward and forced and I'm really not sure what I should do about it.
It's usually last names I'm bad with on that front. Why I keep documents to remind myself not to be stupid.
I did that in one chapter, too. Except it was a major character
Hey when I get writing I don't bother with grammar as many of my post will verify. I do need to check my posts more often. I've been re-reading my novel and realized I changed a very minor characters name between chapters.
It's funny how you're a native speaker of English and you're sending me, a not-quite-native speaker of English, your chapter and are worried about your grammar
Yeah, I chose my words carefully because when I originally began making the list, I realized I didn't really hate too many of them. Despite my criticism for Xenosaga Episode 2, I still don't regret playing it and like having it in my collection. I think there is only one more controversial one in the list that will surprise a few people but nothing like VC which is a fan darling. The list is actually been hard and it's not set in stone. My TOP 25 is mostly finished but I haven't actually organized it. You should do a list though, it would be fun. Send the chapter and I'll send you the first few chapters of mine. I haven't really gone back to check grammar so be prepared...
