That and Bart's awkward Bass voice that sounded like a a guy with a high pitch voice trying to sound like they have a deep guttural voice.
I do have some hazy glimpses of that balding kid telling something in a 40-year-old man's guttural voice... Made me think he was actually a midget who stole that kid's identity.
I feel that is for the best.

That's true. Voice direction is key. You don't even have to go as far away from X as Agrias - she was loads better in X2 even. And for all the flaws it has, FFXIII's voice acting is not one of them. I think it's pretty well done so far, and while Lighting does tend to stay monotone, she has her moments. I like the actress, overall, but probably generally liking the idea of Lightning (like I said, the execution leaves much to be desired) has made me like the voice even better.
You know, since I haven't really touched XIII in ages, I don't think I noticed but I can't hold Lightning against the VA. I mean I really dislike Yuna's VA work but the actress also did a phenomenal job as Agrias Oaks in the FFTactics port.
I don't necessarily count that as a bad thing, however. The voice acting seems great so far and I do enjoy recognizing familiar voice actors The only one that really took me aback was Burroughs, as I am also playing FFXIII and that voice is really familiar to me now
Yeah, I had a similar issue with P4 and SMTIV concerning the re-used VA.
