I wonder if you guessed which one was mine
The Love Story Contest is up! Vote vote vote
Murakami is pretty awesome. I'm actually reading a short story collection called The Elephant Vanishes. And I love it. A lot of the stories don't really have endings, and he has a way of describing the mundane in a way that makes you question whether it is really mundane or is actually something else. He's a big influence lately. Highly recommended! In the end I'm submitting one story to the contest, maybe also one poem, but I'm still not sure about that. Make sure to vote and we'll see if you guessed which one I wrote this time XD
Ah right Murakami. Now there's an author whose name pops up again and again and I still haven't read any of his works. I hope so too =) It feels like it's been quite a while since the last short story.
Yeah, that bit was a rush job. This was actually for a writing prompt, so I didn't want to make it too long, but as usual, it kinda hurt the story, I feel. Still, I wrote this after a Murakami binge. It's fascinating how reading more books can just inspire you so much, because I think it's been a long while since I constructed an atmosphere in my head with so much detail. Still, I'm pretty impressed with myself when I think on the box. There's like interpretations about it coming to my head that I just didn't think about before. I'm hoping this is my return to form ^^
I did! I felt the same kind of fascination regarding the box the protag did, and I think it's pretty cool how quickly he got characterized and we got context regarding his situation, which in turn reflect on his behaviour and make it a little more understandable. If there's one thing I can criticize though, (SPOILER)it's how he gets totally meta in the paragraph where he has a non-interaction with a random passerby. He literally narrates how the young woman's lack of a response dropped his mood, which feels like a bit of a departure from the more emotionally driven narration from before, more detached, if that makes sense? I feel having his mood drop come through subtly by having him narrate things less excitedly or something like that would've worked better. Although that could be pretty hard to get right in such a tiny amount of space. Well, just food for thought.
did you like it doe
If you want to know the Author's Intent.... (SPOILER)What is in there is completely irrelevant. Therefore, since I didn't open it in the story, it may contain nothing, anything at all, or even everything in the universe
WHAT THE HELL IS IN THAT BOX
Neat!
