I get that, and I'm happy this is going more in the direction of Rebuild, I just wish it had Rebuild's more subtle direction where it works more like a "what if?" scenario as opposed to how the remake is using the fact it isn't going to be a 1:1 retelling of the story as a plot point.
VII tries to be subtle or at least I can say its coy about handing out details while still heavily foreshadowing trout. The Fate Police pretty much flat out say this game is not going to go in the direction you expect. We could do better is all I'm saying. I'm already imagining that Remake Sephiroth is going end up hijacking the phantoms and use their fate defying powers to create a power team where he crosses time and space to recruit low-poly original Sephiroth, Erghiez Sephiroth, Kingdom Hearts Sephiroth, Dissidia Sephiroth, AC Sephiroth, and finally Elmdore to create the Perfect VII who will fulfill Jenova's will and conquer the multiverse.
I’m really more happy with this on principle rather than actually enjoying the twists as they are, since I do agree they’re silly
Idk I don’t think FFVII has ever been subtle honestly. It had its nice subtly spooky moments, but the story itself was pretty bombastic, sometimes very dumb. FFs in general have always been pretty campy, so time altering dementors dong stuck out that much for me. But yeah, that’s my subjective take
I love him because I think out of all those composers that worked with SE at one point or another he’s got the most distinct voice. As someone classically trained myself, I definitely appreciate how he breaks out of the typical romanticism-inspired movement that most JRPG soundtracks seem to follow (when they’re not full-on anime music) and instead goes for a more impressionistic, sometimes even contemporary approach. His arrangements for the lovely Final Symphony album really didn’t stand out in terms of quality from the other arrangers, who are professional art musicians, not video game composers, and that just really means something to me. And you know I love Mitsuda as much as you do, but what is he busy with exactly? He’s not exactly the most prolific video game composer out there, making about one piece every six months on average
I feel fans will start to reconsider letting Nomura do stuff anymore after they see him go all Kingdom Hearts on the VII Remake. I am already envisioning time travel becoming a factor before this whole Remake series is over. I'm all for a different interpretation of the source material, but I wish it was being done with more subtlety than a brick to the face.
He only chose him cause Mitsuda was too busy. I think my issue with Hamauzu's versions is that he likes to embellish too much and get all John Williams with some of his pieces. His tracks for the final boss battles sound more like something out of FFXIII than VII.
I know, but I also feel it’s fine and that there’s a place for this. Really I’m just glad they let Nomura run wild instead of desperately pandering to nostalgic audiences. It just goes to show for me that there’s still spirit in SE and it’s not all cynical capitalist moves.
While I still need to see it for myself. The weird ending change for the remake only bothers me because I feel they could have foreshadowed the fact the remake was going to go off rails without being so blatant about it. I've decided the issue I have with Nomura and Toriyama is that neither of them have a concept of the word subtle.
I know you’re not alone in that opinion but I feel vindicated by the fact that Uematsu chose Hamauzu specifically as his successor for the remake I’m certain the fanfare is Suzuki’s with. It’s too straight an arrangement for Hamauzu.
