It's not that I don't have the desire to learn. I just don't have a desire to learn an entire new alphabet that each letter/words has a kajillion different interpretations. If I learned it in using the "ABC" lettering system, i'd be more inclined. Also because it's asian roots there is nothing vaguely familiar about the language. Unlike say the Germanic Languages or even some of the Romance languages. Those all have ties with our own but when it comes to asian languages, they are vastly different and it's more difficult for me to learn. So instead of going out of my way to work on a language that would take me much more time and effort, I instead focus on other more familiar ones first. Ich bin derzeit versucht, Deutsch zu lernen.
You know, I struggled with that concept for a long time. Whenever I hear about something or read about it (if it 's worthwhile) I always try to learn more about it. When I first received the response "It's not something I'm interested in" from a person I was having a discussion with about theology, it never occurred to me that people could be that way. I always thought everybody had an innate interest in wanting to learn. I always thought, "How could a person not want to learn more about something? They must be lying. I guess they just don't like talking to me." I lost a few friends because I didn't understand that people were different from me in that way. I want to learn everything. EVERYTHING. Well, everything worth knowing. I think people should try to learn things whether they're interested at first or not, because once they learn more about it they might see how truly interesting it is.
