My contrastive grammar teacher once told me this amusing story. The Polish word for wasp - "osa" - is feminine. Back in the day, when she wasn't as good at English as she is now, she was spending some time in England, I think, and she had an English roommate.. It was a hot day and the window was wide open, and a wasp flew in. So they panicked, the roommate started swatting the wasp with a newspaper, and my teacher is just shouting at the top of her voice "KILL HER! KILL HER!"
Despite its weirdness, this is why I like English. And Japanese. A table shouldn't have to masculine or feminine. Nor should it change if it is the subject or object.
