See, it'd be awesome if I got a shiny here, since I have never, not once in my life (and I'm playing since gen I), encountered a shiny that wasn't the red Gyarados. My friend who played Pokemon much more casually encountered like two shinies in every game, but then again, he's always ha tremendous luck in games, I'm not even kidding. And then my brother, whom I introduced to the series through Pokemon White, got a shiny Mincinno which he almost didn't catch, because he didn't know shinies were special. Still, I guess there's nothing to do about it either way. I'll be happy with whatever Pokemon I get, knowing you out so much effort into them
It's determined on hatching. To simplify things: When a Pokémon is generated, it has a "Shiny ID". This number is run through a formula and compared to the ID and Secret ID numbers of the Original Trainer. If it returns a value less than a certain amount, it's a shiny. This number is generated with an egg, but not checked or used to set shininess until it hatches. Thus, in the early days of XY (before hacking the 3DS became a thing), people formed HUGE trade networks where they collected data (by routing trades through home networks, where they could track the values going through the networks and thus record the Pokémon info), and determined each individual player's "Shiny ID" (more specifically, the range of Pokémon Shiny IDs that would hatch shiny for that trainer). Then they would trade eggs to people to guarantee shiny hatches, and trade them back. In XY, the number the formula has to return is 16 or lower, which results in a 1/4096 chance to see or hatch a shiny. However, there are two methods that can change that. The Shiny Charm, given for completing the National Pokédex, increases it, and breeding with an international parent does as well (called the Masuda method). With both (as I am using an international Ditto and a parent from my own game), the chances reduce to 1/512. I BELIEVE that this actually changes the number that the egg compares to, raising it so that more values returned from the formula will cause the egg to hatch shiny. If so, that means that ALL of the Eggs here would have a 1/512 chance to hatch shiny for any of the trainers in the tournament. But we'll just have to wait and see.
BTW - do any of our eggs contain shiny Pokemon? Or is that determined on hatching?
Awesome For now, we shouldn't even be needing anymore eggs, so I think you can rest until we get more signups. I'll be filling up the boxes regardless.
So is the frustration. When you finally breed a shiny, and it's not quite the right stat distribution. Shiny Larvesta with max everything but Speed... Still, it's fun, and I enjoy it, especially if I can watch videos or such online while I do it. Gathering the Egg Moves is probably the most frustrating part, because you have to figure out which other Pokémon you need, and get them all ready. Going to take a bit of a break from breeding for a few days. I'm also working on a custom Nuzlocke challenge of Pokémon Y, so I'm going back to that.
Tell me about it. It took me forever to breed a 5V Larvesta with the right nature. Still, on the other hand, I can understand why you enjoy it so much - the satisfaction is immense.
And by "large numbers", I mean five. Training up individual Pokémon to competitive status sucks. Getting the 90 or so we need for the tournament? Fairly easy since I'm not shooting for perfection and already have strong parents set up. But setting up newcomers is hard.
Well, I passed 90. There was a row in my bank I wasn't sure if I had bred or not, and I didn't want to risk duplication. They were all Pokémon that required Mega Stones from ORAS to Mega-Evolve. Including Steelix (who is invalid anyway). But I know I definitely didn't do any ability checking for Snorunt/Glalie, who is the other Pokémon who can get Moody. So I'm PRETTY sure that I won't have a duplicate there. But, just in case, I'm still working on more. So many eggs. It's fun, but I can see why this frustrates people. I wish GameFreak put even more of this in the hands of players. Because if you're doing large numbers, it's exhausting. Currently at 91, and working up five additional planned Pokémon.
Reporting: as of today, I have caught 61 junk Pokemon. Soon I should have enough to fill four boxes.
All of my Box 1 Pokémon wouldn't go to your Box 1 anyway. The way I was planning to do it, your Box 1 would be equally distributed with Pokémon from all three. Because the first Pokémon I pull from Box 1 goes to your Box 1's first slot. The second Pokémon I pull from Box 2, and it goes to your Box 1's second slot, etcetera. That way we know that the boxes are mixed up from what I have, in addition to the general randomness of distribution and the die roll.
