I can understand that, as much as I love FFIV, the battle theme will just wreck you in this game so even at low to mid tier levels I still have issues if that song comes up.
I am. I managed to pass a level 36. But there was a level 18 that was kicking my butt that I had to do at least a dozen times.

I don't think you'll get enough shards to unlock everything if you just try to max out the Rhythm Points, so the Dark Notes are sadly inevitable.
THIS GAME IS HARD. I have considered not bothering with the Dark Notes and just playing until I get points but the amount of points I need will take me like a year to acquire. So which of the 3 items they give is totally random? It certainly doesn't seem like it :P Thanks for all of your help
Once you've collected all the shards needed the game stops giving them to you but sadly they don't give you a consolation prize. If a boss gives two different types of shards and you have all of them if the RNG for item drops chooses the shard you already own all of, you get nothing. So it's a bit of a pain in that regard, but if you need a break from monotony, just keep trying out new Dark Notes until you find a different set of songs that give you the shard you need.
Thanks . Now I seem to have hit the problem of always encountering the same bosses with the same shards. I have 2 dark notes that are identical and I fight the same boss for both of them, but one gives a yellow shard and the other gives silver. Then my level 7 I keep encountering the same boss who gives me indigo shards. Now I'm about to try the level 8 again and this is the one I am actually hoping gives me the same shard because its the Yuna shards and her and Vivi are the 2 characters I want the most, followed by Ashe. So lets say I get all of the yellow shards from that one boss, will it move me to a different prize after I get them all? Hoping to find who has the orange shard eventually
The items given by each level boss varies as some of them give items as well. Usually Tier 3 boses give mostly shards so your best bet is to find a boss that gives a certain shard color you want and just farm them. This will both allow you to get the character you want faster and allow you to get some practice in for the songs. Some notes are pains in the ass to hit but with some practice they can become easier. The big then to remember when doing rhythm games is to focus on the music as much as the notes, you'll soon see that the notes are in-sync with parts of the song and it gets easier to hit the notes correctly by listening to the music more than paying attention to where they are on the screen. It takes a bit of time but practice using tracks you are very familiar with to get the hang of it. Also congratulations on your improvement
