Conversation Between Fynn and Wolf Kanno

  1. Oh wait, that is just Ship of Regret and Sleep :P Silly me. But they did sing the Forst and the Last in concert too
  2. Ooooh yes I’ve heard this on that concert recording. I like how Mitsuda uses that little Irish vocal ensemble he used for XC2’s best tracks. And I just love how they start with Ship of Regret and Sleep. That’s another one of my Xenogears favorites
  3. I agree that they’re fairly generic and that the characters are really... weak. But honestly, imo the game’s don’t really start to shine until the second game (or the end of the first, even? Though I find GS1 pretty bland, its build up to the climax I’d pretty awesome), where you really get to see the unique world design which is where this game shines, imo. I can now tell how much this game took from Dragon Quest (e.g. the town vignettes, the menu, etc), but nowhere is it clearer than in the world design, which is evocative of DQIII, in that it’s based on the real world. However, I feel it’s done a bit better because the games actually go a little bit deeper into showcasing these diverse cultures, and there’s full two games to explore them, so it never feels rushed. Other things I enjoy is that the game’s kinda deconstruct themselves later on, which is always neat, and I just love the dungeons designs. The puzzles may not be too difficult but I like how they make the dungeons flow and how they tie directly into the character class and skill system.

Ill have a listen in a second. Just got to work, need to plug my headphones in
  4. Not sure if you've heard this yet...
  5. I feel the game was just oversold to me. The gameplay was quirky, but nothing to really write home about, but more importantly, I just didn't give a crap about Isaac and his crew. I found them and their journey kind of generic. If you're going to do classic archetypes in this genre, they better be charming as smurf to be impressive, and GS didn't really deliver that for me.

Funny enough, this is another game my GF and I disagree on, she loves the series and even lent me the other two games a few years back, that I recently discovered the other day while cleaning my room. I'll get around to them, but the first game really didn't set my world on fire.
  6. So out of curiosity, what is it about Golden Sun that you don't like?
  7. That will be fine. I have a stressful week ahead thanks to work, so I could use the distraction.
  8. Well, I wouldn't call it a breakthrough. I've still barely written anything. But I should be able to wrap up that side story soon. And maybe send it to you?
  9. I hear that. I was really drained in mine as well, but figured my issue was that I was getting tired of writing Rebecca and needed to switch to someone new. I was going to have this current chapter be an elaborate training montage kind of deal so I can get the plot going again, but instead I switched over to my favorite character and introduced the comic relief character to make the story less dreary. Figure I would focus on building up the side characters who make up the entourage for awhile and let Rebecca cool off for a bit.

I'm glad you made a breakthrough on your novel. I know it's always tempting to go back and rewrite sections. Though sometimes you have to if it really helps to add focus to a character in a way that changes the one of the story.
  10. Fair enough. Though I imagine there is way to make it have that evil without any other instruments. The choir just adds a tad too much color imo - the pure organ just has this weird austerity that perfectly balances the rest of the immensely chaotic track.

In other news, I had a sudden surge of inspiration regarding my novel, but the problem is it’s for a rewrite of the beginning section. And I’m not sure I wanna go back there just yet since I need to stick to a system. But I will try to keep that in mind as I continue writing because I feel like I finally get the main character and he’s finally stopped being frustratingly passive.
