Conversation Between Fynn and Wolf Kanno

  1. I get that, but for me, it's nostalgia. Was really weird having all the spell and class name changes and even weirder when the remakes started changing town names on me.

Good that Torment is almost finished. I have not really doing much gaming wise. Life's been a little hectic so I've been working on smaller projects to keep my head straight instead.
  2. I'm gonna stan the modern DQ translation until the day I die probably, and that's simply because I don't think there's anything like it, and I'm all for there being this one series that's just extremely quirky about it language. Like, there's always gonna be a ton of games with icicles or cones of cold or whatever the hell it's called, but only one game ever has crackle and kacrackle spells.

I'm probably nearing the end of Torment right now - I think, if I recall correctly. It's a short game. I'm about to leave the main hub town to wander about some planes for a little while, and I remember none of them having nearly as much content as Sigil, so I feel like it's pretty much just a linear path to the end right about now. Been trying to finish off some missions in FFTA in the meantime. Got stuck around with around 250 missions for a while because either A) I never had the right mission items or B) the missions were too tough for my characters, but now I've made some decent progress and am at around 280 missions and I keep get new ones that are achievable, so I should finally reach the judge magister arc soon enough.
  3. It will always be Dharma Temple for me. Alltrades Abbey is just too much of a mouthful to say. Same deal with Kandar the bumbling crook whom the new translations give him a new name of Robbinood despite the fact Kandar is his actual Japanese name.

Honestly, the best part of this translation I'm playing is that it's based off the GBC one and thus the old translations for all the spell and city names are intact. I didn't realize how much I disliked the new and sometimes accurate translations until I started playing this version.
  4. Sounds like you've got a good idea of where you're going!

    Also, it's Alltrades Abbey
  5. I reached Dharma and changed my Warrior into a Dealer so I could both get their useful skills and also to even out her stats a bit. Having most of my party being woman is really useful since I have the Garter Belt accessory which gives them the Sexy Personality. That personality gives you the best stat growth in the game. Once she gets to lv. 20, I plan on switching her to Thief to finally raise up her Agi and Luck as quickly as possibly before I plan on switching her back to Warrior for endgame. The Thief skills will also be useful in the long run as well. Though I must say that I'm really digging the Dealers ability to find Gold randomly in battle and raise enemy drop rates.

My male hero is using a rosary to give him a Romantic personality to finally build up his lackluster Int. and Agi, stats. I'm debating about just permanently changing his personality to Smart with one of the books, but Valiant is still a pretty awesome base personality in terms of just raw strength. I may have to pick up the ship and head to the Pirates Den just so I can grab the Punk Ring and get access to the Solitary Personality type since it will probably give him the best stat growth I can until I find either the Gold Necklace or the Gold Beak to get the Lewd or Lucky personality types.

My Cleric and Mage are going to stay in their respective classes until around Lv. 24 by which point the Mage will learn Twinhits and Boom, while my Cleric will learn Vivify. After that, I may switch them to Warrior and Fighter respectively. I'll then switch them both to Jesters and finally to the Sage class.
  6. Not too bad, I'm almost to Dharma Temple, which is when my job class changing shenanigans will begin. I'm in DQ India currently trying to get Pepper so I can finally have a ship.
  7. Ooh, awesome! How is that working for you?
  8. Switching gears, I've also been replaying Dragon Quest III between my horror marathon.
  9. Yeah, I know what you mean. For as much trout as people give XII, I think it was actually pretty great about side-content. Then something died when XIII came along and that was it
  10. Hopefully we can see some change, but I also feel the ease of building fetch quests will stick around for awhile simply because they are easy to implement. Personally, I just wish FF would go back to more creative side-quests.
