  1. I always figured Sephy never showed off the full extent of his abilities in Disc 1 simply because he just needed to leave bread crumbs for Cloud. Though I also feel his obsession with Cloud was always a bit wonky in the English translation. With that said, I expect Sephy's inhuman abilities will likely get more screentime in this one, so I wouldn't be surprised if we got to actually see the scenes where he butchers President Shinra and the MIdgar Zolom in this one.

    I agree that they should have left the reveal for Sephy for later, but I also figure this is a remake for the long time fans and thus they chose to introduce him early since there is no point in hiding his existence in the plot. Chances are that Cloud's mental episodes are going to have a more visceral visual effect than the ambiguous dialogue from the original so they might as well just reveal the poor guy still has PTSD from 5 years ago. I'm wondering if they'll be even more heavy handed about Zack's existence in this one, like maybe Aerith will see a vision of Zack when she meets Cloud at the church with his image over lining Cloud's before it returns to just Cloud? We'll know in March I guess.

    I dabbled in Fragmentary Passage but didn't get far since I wanted to finish BbS first. Sadly, I'm burnt out on KH for the moment, so it may be awhile before I see that episode or even KHIII. Just more games in my backlog at the moment.

It is amazing how even small episodes like A Fragmentary Passage add some standard explanations to the first game, one possible option about something KH3 Final Hours-related and x inconsistencies or not well enough established lore details. I hope ReMind will solve some of these things but I doubt it will, especially when it comes to the big KH3 things and when I say "solve" I mean relatively logical or at least not spitting on the narrative/lore.
  3. Been replaying this - such a good game. I have played through it in April again but currently during our gaming sessions I also get to show it to my brother.

  4. I am not so sure if Omnislash V5 will be in the game as it is supposed to be the super ultimate sublimely magniificent Jecht shot mark 3 move highlight in AC. The "new finisher" that nobody has seen before and that was not even properly used in Dissidia as Cloud in AC used it to attack Sephiroth with every single weapon the First Tsurugi consisted of to have some "cool final moment in the battle". Especially in Complete were Sephiroth straight blocked the original Omnnislash and the normal one is also the one I will be fine with as the last move - especially for the last fight. But what I am pretty sure will be included is Vincent's Dirge of Cerberus version of Galian Beast and Chaos (maybe it is redesigned but surely no grey demon with no details again).

    We will see what they add. But I cannot imagine Omnislash V5 will be in. Maybe some "prototype" or stuff like Octaslash.

    You will be surprised to read that but I while I absolutely love the trailer that came out I am not really satisfied with the fact that Sephiroth is in it. It does not matter if it is Cloud imagines him through an early reunion call, if it is Sephiroth controlling the headless JENOVA or his own body for some random reason no longer being in the crystal. I believe Final Fantasy VII is good enough to survive one episode without showing Sephiroth prematurely. Especially with them mentioning him all the time. The only time I would think of him being shown as good would be once the Reunion starts. The could either show Palmer triggering a flashback were he kills Shinra or, and that I think would have been the bet option, they could have shown him as either the final pre-credits or in a post-credits scene, like him wandering through the swamps, killing the Midgardsormr or something, him being seen by the Kalmers, who even mention him in the original. There would be many options. But as last scene i think it would have the greatest effect. Kinda like in Star Wars 2 were you saw the Clone Army and Palpatine looking down. I am also from that old wallpaper pretty sure he will have his wing. But I think the only time in non-AC scene he should have it in his ultimate form. But that one I think is not all that bad. I can forgive that as long aas they have a proper translator that finally gets Aerith's relationship with Cloud right and not just "sort of right so people can still deny it" and leaves out wrong translations like Zack being her boyfriend. And when it comes to the original script, even though I doubt it, maybe Nojima-san tweaks the Sephiroth chase as it make no sense for him to wander around the whole journey since even back in 1997 he already made use of stuff like flying teleporting and at one point even phasing through matter. But that would of course lead to the problem that Sephiroth would appear practically nowhere except maybe to talk to Dio, wait in the Mansion cellar and the Temple of the Ancients. I just see no reason for Sephiroth to wait for a ship and all that stuff. It was the classic "we gave him that arsenal of abilities but we didn't let him use it when it made sense." There were some unnecessary things o CD1 already or just weirdly written, alot about other characters. I have no problem with that being changed as the story would only be more comprehensive this way. I also don't know what Nojima-san can do to make people understand that Sephiroth is the villain and not Jenova as he already flat out made Hojo say that it was all Sephiroth's doing and that he combined his will with the reunion etc. and people ignored that so I guess there will never be a story that people actually want to understand.

    Yeah, I'm pretty sure Aerith will have some quirks to her style that makes her play differently. I imagine her ATB may load faster than other characters so she can use magic and skills more frequently. I've read that all of the characters have an FFX deal going where certain characters are built for facing of with certain types of opponents with better proficiency.

    I'm sure we'll see some over the top wire-fu once we get to them trying to implement some of the higher tier limit breaks as skills. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Cloud get access to his AC version of Omnislash much like what we saw in Dissidia.
  6. I cannot find the picture right now. Only the one were she has that Tempest move but I actually today even spoke with somebody about how Aerith just demands a very special play style. A variety of staff swings makes no sense since she is no real fighter (like most FF characters are not and for some reason random people that happen to have a weapon) and I could even imagine her as a person that carries no weapon at all. But yes, maybe they go the Geomancer style. It works with the Cetra thing and could also provide possibilities for other more superhuman things like one attack being like a telekinetic shock or whatever. It would not even be freshly invented because Aerith lets her weapon float all the time in the original while casting.

    What I am really waiting for is Nanaki's play style. And if not for everyone at least Yuffie should get some fancy wall-run and overall acrobatic style. Actually I would want that for at least Yuffie and Vincent but implementing it for some characters is another issue.
  7. Did you notice Aerith has a move called Gaia's Wrath in her command list in screenshots? Perhaps they're going to go back to the idea of her being a geomancer.
  8. I feel the reason Cover and Counter would be remove is because they would likely take control away of the party member. Now that I've thought about it though, I can see a way Counter could work though the new ATB mechanics may take out the Command/Summon Counter materias since you would only be able to activate the move when the character had enough MP and ATB to utilize it, so either certain mechanics would have to change to compensate, or the materia will be dropped or heavily retooled.
  9. I imagine Cover, Counterattack, and Long Range will also be removed.


    While I also think these as well as others have a good chance of being removed they all could still be in the game, depending on how it is implemented


    Cover:
    Possibility 1: If you stand inbetween a character and an attack the damage is reduced.
    P2: While having the Materia equipped you can target a character and dash to him with an auto block of the next attack.


    Counter Attack: Same as in the original there is the chance of counterattacking, maybe also only if you have targetted the one before he attacked you. But definitely with a small chance to not exploit it too much.


    Long Range: I could imagine this one working for no character that is Vincent, Barret and Yuffie if they allowed stuff like aerial combat because then there could be a chance that because of that they could also allow something like a dashing attack to either an enemies far in the background or in the air.


    Manipulate: This one would need to be really creative. The coolest option would be a character being frozen while you control an enemy and it would break oce the character is hit or the enemy. But this would need to be hell of programming as you would need to program a whole list og enemies like a usable character, loading the attack list, being able to move the enemy and all that stuff. Instead it could be used for something like targetting and enemy and choosing the very next attack but if you or the enemy is hit even that thing is interrupted.


    Enemy Skill: Now that one being removed would really suck. If they really remove it I want either Aerith or Nanaki to be Blue Mages as they could narratively justify to be able to copy moves from enemies. Aerith could also finally "make use of something from nature" just like Cetra normally can cast without Materia.


    Throw I doubt will be inthe game unless the character throws an item with the thrown one always having the same skill like everything being represented as a ball or whatever.

Yeah, we'll just skip CC at the moment because my issue with adding to that scene really stems with my issue of the game as a whole and SE's insistence on trying to make side stories just as earth shattering as the original IP they are based on, but that can be a discussion for another day. Personally, I feel the ending would have been better if the scene had played exactly like the original scene without the extra scenes and dialogue because Zack's story should have always been a Shoot the Shaggy Dog Story.

    I feel my issue with Hyne really is just the fact that it's weird to name drop such an important figure and then never really go into them again at all. Like I figured Ultimecia's goal with Time Compression was always meant to be here trying to reunite and take control of Hyne's power, but the fact that even that is never directly stated is kind of weird to me. VIII has so many strange world building issues.

    Yeah, I'm aware of the novel, though I've heard the game is a very loose adaptation of it. Personally, I think the more interesting thing about PE is that most the game feels like it was built from all of the discarded ideas from VII. The Guch wanted the story to be set in New York City, Jenova was originally envisioned as a biological component within all beings and that Shin-Ra was simply trying to wake it up with Sephiroth being an artificial Eve type figure.

    I've always liked the fact the Square's core developers tended to save unused ideas for later games, such as Celes' unused spy role being utilized for Cait Sith, or how VI and CT's plots utilized several unused ideas for Secret of Mana, and how Xenogears used several unused ideas from CT. It's nice to see interesting ideas didn't simply just die with the finished project, but instead moved onto become their own thing.
