  1. Ugh... I wish my reason was quite so indulgent.

I'm making a presentation for my seminar that I have to present at 10 AM. It's about my MA thesis. And it was almost done, but then my hard drive died and I have to recreate it from memory. God knows I probably won't sleep today...
  2. Indeed, and same goes to you ^^
Listening to a great OST on repeat it's just hard to call it quits y'know?
  3. My my my. Aren't we up late?
  4. "German"... yeah. To its credit the text is syntactically and semantically correct, but the pronunciation... why can't they just hire an actual German native speaker to sing it? Well then again I'm pretty sure the lyrics weren't written from German to begin with because rhythmically it's kind of a mess ^^ Although it does sound kinda nice overall.

German isn't a bad language (does such a thing even exist?), it just has those quirks that I can easily see as being annoying as hell to learn; especially for English native speakers. It also has a rather unique pronunciation in many ways, which can also trip you up if you care about that. Sounds like you got that down pretty well though ^^

...I have no plans to ever learn Polish.
  5. I remember Xenogears had one of the main characters' gears named "Seibzehn", which was pretty embarrassing

Also, Xenoblade Chronicles X has this one awesome track called "wir fliegen" which is supposedly in German?

I really love the language, though a lot of people here are really prejudiced against it, which is a shame. Heck, some of my group friends hate it, even though we're all studying it

But yeah, I think Polish wins in the difficulty category. I think it's one of the top 3 most difficult languages on many lists. Looking at how people German and English here, I can draw some interesting conclusions: for Poles, English is easy at the beginning, but the rules get more and more complex as you go, making it hard to master, whereas German is quite complex from the beginning, but doesn't get that much more difficult later on, so while people start speaking German much later when learning it, if you do study it at all, it's much more difficult to master

The funny thing is, I always get complimented on how well I speak German, because that's a general talent of mine - I can sound native-like in a new language very quick, but O can never easily take in vocabulary, so I doubt I'll ever excel in English or use my translating skills in practice
  6. Heh heh. Now I wonder which language has the most complicated grammar of all. All in all I'm perfectly content with knowing German, English, little bits of French, Latin and Russian, and learning Japanese, though. :P

Although one of the downsides of having German as your native language is that for some reason anime has this weird obsession with "German" (and I use the term loosely) sometimes. Consequently scenes that are supposed to be serious turn incredibly hilarious. Fate/Stay Night is especially guilty of this.
  7. I might someday, if I feel like it And trust me - I'm even luckier to have Polish as my native language, rather than German For starters, you guys have four cases - we have eight.
  8. Ah is that so. All I can say about German is I'm soooo glad I didn't have to learn it from the ground up, because looking at it it would've been a real bitch to learn xD
In my experience at least one of the most important thing when learning a language is exposing yourself to it as much as possible. If you're not too uncomfortable with it and could use a bit of practice we could converse in German if you want
  9. You know, I actually study English/German translations, so German is actually my C language, but I'm always extremely shy and uncomfortable about my German skill. Ich bin der Meinung dass mein Deutsh schrecklich ist
  10. Ach du meine Güte...
