It's still interesting though, and I can't say I'm not digging it. It's just different, despite most of the elements feeling similar. It is to be expected, though, and I feel this is a story that really didn't need to be told, but it doesn't feel like a cash grab. I genuinely feel that they were doing it for the art, and really wanted to expand on what's already there. The end result just comes across as a little weird, though.
Nerd culture, combined with the anonymity of the internet is just the pits lately. Eva fanbase has just always been messed up with half the fans missing the point and the other half placing too much emphasis on everything to turn it into something grander than it really was. As for BG, I've just learned ages ago that it's never a good sign when a creative team tries to revive an old IP through sequels/prequels or any other expansion years after the the fact. It never feels right.
So I’m playing Baldud’s gate: Siege of Dragonspear and there’s something very weird about interquels made years later like this. The only similar thing I can think of is the abysmal FFIV interlude. This looks to be much better, thankfully, but it’s still weird. On the surface everything feels familiar, but then the characters returning from 1, which had flat characters that didn’t talk muvh, now have more involved dialogue and stories and even romances, much like in BG2. Its very strange. Also, this is the game where fans lost their trout because an incredibly minor one-off NPC will reveal to you she’s trans if you steer the conversation juuuuust right. They proceeded to lambast both this game and the rereleases of the other two simply out of spite. Just in case anyone would think the Eva fandom is the only smurfed up one. I think there may just be a larger problem with nerd culture in general.

As a long time YGOTAS fan, I definitely know what 4Kids is I’ll give it a watch! And yeah, now that you mention it, I feel kind of the same philosophy was behind 3.33 as EoE. Basically Anno goes “Well here’s exactly what you said you wanted! smurf you!”
I don't know if you know what 4Kids was and so this video might go over your head a bit, but this made me chuckle today.
Yeah... again. A lot of the fanbase kind of miss the point that the "plot" is a red herring for what the series is really about. The series was the same and I still stand by the fact that the original TV ending was better than End of Evangelion because it basically explained the point of the series better and happened to give the whole cast a relatively happy ending.
