It is easy to get intimidated by the battle system, due to how complex it can become. But if you ever do feel intimidated, just take a step back, and try a simpler approach. You really do have almost complete control of the battle system, and you very rarely need to make it complicated. Pretty much. It costs you nothing to switch, and there aren't any punishments or anything for switching early. The key is to not get hung up trying to solve a puzzle and forget that the solution may be in another timeline (which plenty of people who play the game do).

Advice for Radiant Historia is kind of hard. Don't be afraid to explore beyond the beaten path. Get used to the mechanics of the timeline shifting, and always be willing to look to the other timeline for answers. Also, don't get too intimidated by the battle system. It may allow for some extreme craziness, but you control how complicated the battles get, and you rarely have to let things reach the point where they get to overwhelming complexity.
Nope. I've played some of DQIX, but I stopped when I ran into a boss that you're apparently supposed to have a party for while I still only had my main character. I'll go back to it at some point. But overall, I don't have a ton of experience with the Dragon Quest franchise.

It's still worth getting the game though. It may be structured incredibly differently from most of the series, and it may have a relatively poor selection of Pokémon, but it's still an absolutely fantastic game, if you can find it.
