Well, yeah, i get the messianic archetype and stuff, loci communes and everything, but sometimes it seems like they call people Jesus for arbitrary reasons rather than actually being an actual Messianic figure (in a more or less figurative sense) Fandoms, man
If you think of the bible as a book of fiction, Jesus was kinda the first protagonist with a crazy amount of happenstance that allowed him to do what he did. Like yeah he died and all but he came back! and yeah! And since he's been sooooooo popular forever now.... he's kinda the reference to make when someone makes a sacrifice for happenstances. Everyone will understand what you mean if you compare someone to him. We all know who he was, even if a person doesn't believe the story themselves.
What's with people calling characters Jesus, anyway? I've been reading the TVTropes pages on Rebuild of Evangelion recently and I remembered the "Kaworu died for your sins" meme And then there's Chu chu from Xenogears

Thrall is Green Jesus. Or well, in the new movie about to come out, he's green moses even as a baby. His parents float him in a basket down a river. They call him that because the CEO loves him so much that he becomes central to a lot of plot lines. He seems to be the guy who helps with everything. So they call him green jesus cause he's the one prophet dude that yah. They stopped focusing him so heavily in the last two expacs now but for several, he was it for horde and then in the third xpac he was it for all players. He was the main man to help with the baddy. So while people like him they also think he's very a Gary Stu.
I actually have little to no idea about WoW, but I once saw this one article about fandoms and stuff and Blizzard was mentioned and, apparently, no one cosplays Thrall, ever, but there's so much porn with him, which is a weird discrepancy.
