No he, honestly just likes characters like this. Choose any video game/anime he always gravitates towards the most overpowered character in the story. Kenpachi, Guts, Armgrin, Citan Uzuki, Broly, Cloud, Golbez, the Uchiha Clan, etc. He's just loves to live vicariously through them. Empowerment and image are big deals for him in a game or anime. A large part of why he hates XII is because of Vaan.

It usually is. It tends to get amusing when either FFXII or XIII get brought into the picture because he loathes XII and tolerates XIII except for XIII-2 because he loves Caius since he tends to gravitate towards really overpowered Mary-Suiesh characters with sob backstories. You know my opinions on these games so you can bet the discussion gets interesting.

Yeah... that's my issue as well. I don't disagree the game is probably really good and I've liked what I've seen, but MMO's are just a time sink to me and I'd rather be creative than just grinding all my free time. The panels are usually entertaining, but incredibly unstructured which tends to annoy me a bit more. He doesn't like planning too much so the panels tend to be really disorganized. We have to make it an 18+ panel just because we both have a hard time self-censoring and we have a vitriol way of talking to each other when we're trying to get our say in.
XIV is good, but it's still an MMO. Ergo, it's pretty much just a second job and I'd rather spend what little free time I have on something more productive. Or at least entertainment that doesn't require you to commit as much. Sounds like it can be an interesting panel, though
Yeah, mine likes to talk over people a lot too. The funny thing is that the only games we agree about in terms of the FF series is really FFIV, VIII, and Tactics. Though we don't see eye to eye on these either. This is also the guy who prefers ARPG combat over turn based, though he does like both. He's been trying to get me to play XIV for ages because he has a major hard on for it.
God, that reminds me so much of this one coworker I have. Like, at first I was excited to have him because we liked similar stuff, but then he's just so... very debate-y about it
I hope so too. I'm doing another video game panel, but I feel like my partner and I come from too different worlds when it comes to the subject matter and what we want to talk about. I feel he's just more interested in arguing about his opinions about games he likes/dislikes, whereas I'm more interested to discuss overall design and structure. He's too literal minded about things whereas I deal too much in the hypothetical.
