I've also just started playing FFTA! Can't remember all the jobs too well, but I'll try to do the same thing I did with FFT, in that I'll try to create specific set-ups for characters instead of everyone just randomly learning stuff from various jobs. I know I definitely want to have a maxed Blue Mage and Morpher because those classes are awesome if you take the time to get all their skills.
Honestly, you should check back after every area if you want to keep consistent or are going for a completion run but I would simply choose to either go back after you see something you want, or simply take advantage the times you have to go to the Veldt in the WoR. Sadly, many of Gau's best Rages in the WoR are either in Kefka's Tower or will most likely be too difficult to defeat when you first get there.

Too many to say really. Magic Pot is great for turning Gau into the best defensive healing unti in the game. Reatiner (can't remember his original name) gives you Leo's Shock move. Several minor monsters end up giving you eatlu access to high tier spells like Holy and -aga level spells. The Pteradon/Lesser Drake uses Fireball which is great. Stray Cat has a melee attack that ignores defense and does damage I think that's like 2x the user's attack power allowing Gau to murder enemies incredibly quickly. Behemoth does Meteor and Zombie Dragons do N. Cross. There are really too many good ones since he has over 200 different rages. My advice is to either resort to an online guide, or experiment with monsters you liked to see what they do. I will tell you now to avoid Intangir as he uses a suicide move as his normal move.
So I know you like Gau and I've decided to use him more, just to make him more useful. Any tips on his rages? Which ones are really worth using?
I haven't yet, mostly because I'm not sure if I'll be done today so I don't really want him waiting around for me when I can't guarantee it will be done.

The second disc usually goes by pretty quickly for me if I don't bother with Master Materia. I'm heading off to the Forgotten City to watch Aerith die. I really need to get back to FFIV but I'm trying to work on my Halloween story at the moment.
