I played it around the time of its release since I already had a PlayStation by that time. Me and a friend of mine loved it. It was also my introduction to Dragoons. Long before I even knew they were a thing on Final Fantasy.
2003? Quite a while after the initial release, I never owned a game console until I bought my PS2 at Christmas 2002. I think what really sold it to me was the plot twist with Rose cutting the bloody swath through history.
