  1. I'm almost there, so yay! Will it be better than the Liquid Metal Sword?
  2. You need to go to Zenithia and speak with the Dragon.
  3. Ooh, what's the secret?
  4. There is a trick to making it better.
  5. Disappointed that the Zenithian sword is so weak
  6. Yeah, I always seem to have issues with the even numbered entries. Probably one of the reasons why I haven't been running to pick up DQVI just yet.
  7. So it's kind of like II in that regard.

Still, II is an interesting case as it really is logically bigger and better than I, but is less simple and is pretty much the least revolutionary of the first three.
  8. Chapter 6 is relatively short since it was added to the remakes. The final boss is actually just a variation of the games actual final boss. I will also note that DQIV probably has one of the more challenging boss battles.

Yeah, it's not that DQIV is bad per se, it's just not as interesting mechanically. The chapter set up was a cool story element but it really needed Chapter 5 to deliver on what the earlier chapters teased and I kind of found it pretty bland myself. In truth, it's just sandwiched between better entries.
  9. Hm. Well, that would either mean my Kiryl was somehow behind on stats, or they really changed stuff for the DS remake. And yeah, Borya just learned Oomph, so for a second I considered maining him instead of Maya, but then Maya wrecked Baalzack with Frizzle, so I think I'm going to stick to those offensive spells this time. In III, I mostly relied on my sages to boost my fighters, but it looks like there might be fewer monsters resistant to Frizz this time around.

Although I'm still a bit miffed at how unreliable offensive magic is in this series as opposed to, say, FF, or even SMT. In those two, the only ones that would have a consistent chance of missing were instant-death spells, whereas here it's really common for enemies that I know are affected by Sizzle, to bu unaffected by it, which sucks balls.

So anyway, I think I may be approaching end-game and I may be starting DQ V this week. I got the magma staff so I should be able to obtain the remaining two pieces of the Zenithian Armour either today or tomorrow, and then I still need that sword. How long would you say Chapter 6 is, compared to Chapter 5?

As for my thoughts so far, it does seem a bit weaker than DQ III, but that game was pretty revolutionary, so I can see how that was hard to live up to. While the chapter idea is pretty interesting, I'd rather have been able to explore the whole world map from the beginning, and not half the world uncovered once the journey proper starts.
  10. Magic spells I think are learned based on stats as opposed to levels. So technically he would reach that Intelligence stat by Lv. 17 but if the RNG favors your character or you've been using Stat seeds, you may learn them sooner or later. That or it's just something the devs tweaked while working on the game.
