Conversation Between Ultima Shadow and NeoCracker

  1. Well, that's the final nail in the coffin then. I actually watched the trailer that DMKA linked to, and I have to admit the way it was presented was cringeworthy.

Oh, and I've gotten about 26 hours into Ys Seven. And if there is one thing that this game does really, really well... it's the boss battles. Not a single one has been disappointing and only two of them felt about average. The bigger boss battles are among the best I've seen in any RPG. And... save Mana Khemia's and P3's final bosses, Ys Seven has the best boss battles for any handheld game I've played... by a mile.

I think I might get even more out of them since I'm playing at Hard, which makes some of the bosses just as challenging as Smough and Ornstein in Dark Souls, adding to the intensity. But I doubt they'd be a lot less exciting on normal.

Overall I'd say the bosses alone are good enough to, probably, make the game end up on my top 5 PSP games list.
  2. I did, and it was awful. Really that battle system alone was enough to turn me off, not that a good system could have saved this game mind you.

Really the crappy battle system was the least of the games problems.
  3. ...ah. Well... looks like the reviews weren't all that off after all. In fact, it even sounds like the reviews that gave it 4/10 were far too kind.

...did you ever get to a battle? Didn't see anything about the battle system in the chat-quotes.
  4. I don't know why I'm hoping that your opinion of the game will be the exact opposite of everyone else, but I totally do. But yes, we shall see.

Ys Seven is the first one for me, so I have no idea what to expect really. But so far, it does look pretty promising for a PSP RPG.
  5. I"m kind of expecting my opinion to be the same at this point, considering how unanimous it's been, but we shall see!

And I've only ever played Ys III back on the SNES. It was pretty good.
  6. Ah, well for some reason I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Time and Eternity more than those other games.

And traitor! Now I feel even lonlier with my 6 years old ancient non-smart artifact of a phone.

Oh, and I just started playing Ys Seven for the PSP. While the story starts out kinda cliché and the main character not talking doesn't work quite as well as in, say, Golden Sun, the gameplay is pretty sweet and the characters aren't too bad either so far. The first boss was suprisingly interesting for a first boss battle too. Though I started the game on "Hard" right off the bat, and I'm not entierly sure it was that great of an idea since the very first boss killed me 6 times. But ah well. As long as the game doesn't see a drastic increase in difficulty, I should be fine... I hope.
  7. TIme and Eternity is going to be one of the 3 games, and I am dreading it. Dynasty Warriors VIII and Shin Megami Tensai IV are the other two.

Only beat the first two dungeons of Ages thus far, and it's pretty good. It hasn't aged as well as, say, Link to the Past, but I'm enjoying them. Only 6$ each off the Nintendo Shop, though I'm not sure what it would be for you people.

Yeah, I have quite the diverse set of games this month.

Also, with my bitchin new phone, Final Fantasy Dimensions may be added to my list of games this year! Huzzah!
  8. Which 3 games is it this time? And how's Oracle of Ages and Seasons? Only played a few Zelda games, and while I never got too much into the 3D ones, I really loved A Link to the Past.

Also, did you try Time and Eternity yet, and was it as bad as the reviews said?
  9. Only 4 more days before my next 3 games drop!

Also currently playing through Oracle of Ages and Seasons for the first time!
