No, if you say yes, he lets you be king for a little while but in order to continue you the story you have to track him down in the gambling parlor and make him take the crown back. It's just a fun little diversion the game gives you.
So I just had to refuse the king of Romaria FIVE TIMES until he let me not take over his kingdom. Was that the wrong choice then?

It's VX Ace I believe, picked it up in the last Steam sale. I may need to pick up some expansion packs as well as the story involves two different settings. I'll definitely ask for help when I begin focusing on music. I've dabbled in arranging loops together to make music but never actual composition. Though it may be a while before I get to that point. I'm still writing the script while I play around with the event editor.
Which RPG maker are you using? If I had the software, or at least a piano, I could help you by composing some music, since I used to dabble in composition back in music school >< Still, I'll gladly help with proofing the script, at least, so that's a bit less work on your shoulders
Not at the moment, I'm still trying to get myself familiarized with some of the tech I'm using. I figure I will make a test run on RPG Maker and then use another program to make it. I'm both excited and weary at the same time.
