The thread doesn't even like Zevran, it's full of people with, to be charitable, questionable taste. That said Dog does not actually have much in the way of party interactions and stuff. If you're playing on PC I highly HIGHLY recommend this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/664/? because it lets Dog come with you at all times as a fifth party member. Makes the game easier obviously so I upped the difficulty by one as a result. Anyway if you're not on PC then yeah you may want to drop Dog, he's a great companion but others are a bit more talkative.
No one else was suggesting him as best companion in thread tho :<
