Yeah, the place got sold a couple of times so it no longer feels like it's owned by the people, although admittedly aside from advertising they don't get involved at all, which is probably good. They do, however, fund any required software without too much hassle, so that's a good side to it.
True enough. RPG games in general isn't the new hot thing anymore either as it was back in the late 90s. And lots of the content has been here for ages and as you say, no major realese in years should mean that it should be as good as complete. Oh well, I've always seen this site more like a "by the people for the people" kinda of place.
I dunno, I think the site has a lot of content, personally. People are contributing quite well at this moment, although it could be better. There's also the fact that we're currently in the process of setting up vBulletin4 on a test forum. Once we're happy with it, we'll be moving potentially the entire website over to it, meaning a massive amount of work, potentially a year's worth or so. But, yeah, once that starts happening I think things will move about a lot. I hope so, anyway. As for content over the past four years, it probably doesn't help that no major FF games were released since 2006. =x
I started using the forums in 1999 and the chatrooms I know I used before we moved from the town I lived in then which was in December 2000. Some of thoese names sounds familiar yes, I used to be called DK in the chat though. Times goes by I tell you.. I'm kinda suprised there isn't more content on this site though. People not contributing as much any more?
Hmm, I think the IRC channel was set up in 2000, shortly after I joined in August - Scottie ran it at the time. Sure you don't have your years mixed up? Either way, if you were into the IRC channel then Rinoabella, Zell 007 (now Hsu), Roogle, Majin-Squall (later named Loki, now named DK), Kishi (ie Kawaii Ryűkishi), uhm... I'm sure there are others, I just keep forgetting. xD Jojo is still around as Jojee, too, if you remember her.
No idea, then again I mostly hang around IRC back in the days. I joined right before FF8 was realesed and everyone on the forum was just praising it all day long.

Rinoabella and Zell 007 sounds very familiar. And I decided to check out the site as I started playing through the DS version of FFIV. You didn't join until 2000? I think I joined in 1999 hehe ^^
