  1. Yeah! Even the part where she's frightened of him at first, and the way he puts her at ease and lets her know she can come and play whenever she wants! And he keeps his study door open to listen, and Laurie makes sure the servants don't wander in while she's playing.

This book can make a grown man cry!
  2. Ah, so you've gotten to the part where Mr. Laurence has given Beth her piano though.

That's one of the moments that breaks me down. Even now, it's bringing tears to my eyes.
  3. Mr. March is now sick and their mother is going to visit him! This is basically the last thing that happened. The book is at work otherwise I would read it tonight but I'll take extra long breaks tomorrow at work to finish it. The trick is to go on break 15 minutes early, and finish 15 minutes later. Turns a half hour break into an hour! Plenty of reading time. Two of those, then finish half hour early and read until home time...I basically read for a living

That would be a real good tattoo! The book even so far is full of great sentiments like that.
  4. Actually, since I first read it it I've wanted a tattoo that says: "For love casts out fear, and gratitude can conquer pride."

    So beautiful.
  5. Can you tell me what just happened so I know where you are/don't spoil anything for you?

I read this book every year at some point. :3
  6. It just generally makes everything lovely, it seems! Looking forward to maybe finishing it tomorrow at work/next day. I keep getting scared that it is lulling me into a false sense of security with its niceness and something tragic is going to happen and I will be devastated! Even at the start I thought Amy was going to die under the ice. I have read too many dark, gruesome books!
  7. Maybe I'll add it to my reading list for July. I have a huge backlog, and my SIL always gives me books when Denmark and I visit them. xD

Yes, it's a wonderful, wonderful book. I'm pretty anti-religion because of my own experiences, and yet, the religious aspects of it are sweet and beautiful.
  8. Yeah, the level of realism is what I really like about it. Even though it was written in the 1800's it doesn't feel dated at all, either. I'm also finding it really informative of the time like, I loved the scene at the start where Meg and Jo are getting ready for the dance and they're using the hot pokers to try and curl Meg's hair and they burn it. Completely reminded me of all the times I've been around a bunch of girls getting ready before, I found it pretty funny and cool how similar it all was despite the 200 or so year time difference!

Good stuff. You definitely have to read Oryx And Crake as soon as you can
  9. You're already halfway through? It's a really long book, though! You go, man! I'm glad you're enjoying it so much. Maybe you can see now by what I meant that it's pretty much non-feminist BUT the characters of Jo and Amy are so independent and free thinking that it's still relateable. Not to mention just how each of the sisters falls in love with madly different men, but all of them are just perfect for them. It's, in my opinion, the greatest love story every written because it's REAL.
  10. Started Little Women today, halfway through and it puts me in a good mood whenever I read! Great book thus far. Great shout, Jinx!
