I agree with you there. Having said that, I do think armor that bright would have looked a little contrasting in the style of the film version. I know I basically said this in my last reply to you in my blog, but I think if they went for a more "Pacific Rim" approach, they could have had the movie look a lot more like the manga.
With reference to your recent blog, I also prefer the armour that they wear in the original manga compared to the one in the movie.
It had started!
Yeah, the Obi-Wan vs Anakin/Vader battle came close to what I liked about the Original Trilogy battles. Man, I am kind of in the mood to rewatch all those movies now.
Oh mine, you seem to have raised up a very good point here. A too well coordinated battle scene indeed make it too well planned and appear as a dance of soft. But the part where Obi-Wan battles Anakin had a bit of feelings in it too. But I gotta agree nothing beats the "I am your father part." I kinda prefer the lightsaber scenes from "The Return of the Jedi" though. Pretty touching how he refuses to murder his own old man and Vader repented.
(part 2 of my rant) Hell, even before I saw the review in question, I always felt that the Luke vs Vader battle in Empire Strikes Back was the best saber battle because not only was in beautifully shot, but the circumstances behind it are no powerful. Luke thinks he is battling a villain that killed his father, and seems to be hold his own against Vader until the dark lord uses the Force on him. Luke, appears to be gaining some ground again, manages to graze Vader's shoulder with his OLD LIGHTSABER, and Vader almost immediately cuts Luke's hand off, showing that he was toying with Luke the whole time. Well, that's because he want's Luke to join the bad guys! Oh, and HE IS ALSO LUKE'S FATHER! Simply awesome.
I actually have a couple of the cheaper lightsabers that have the collapsing blades. I have one modeled after Obi-Wan's from the New Trilogy and Luke's green one from Return of the Jedi. As for the lightsaber battles? The ones from the New Trilogy were very well coordinated, but at times they looked like they were TOO planned out, like a dance or something. I don't deny that it took a lot of skill and effort by everyone involved, but a satirical reviewer said that he liked the Old Trilogy battles better because they were more about the FEELINGS behind the battles. I agree with him.
