At least one in every three people is stupid. I'm one of these people; I'm well read enough that this is not immediately apparent, but reading a lot is not the same as being any smarter than anyone else. I may mention my stupidity from time to time if it's relevant. I don't want to hear any bulltrout demurrals--I prefer the honest opprobrium of those who attach a negative value judgment to lesser intelligence. The problem with the "nice guy" approach is that it perpetuates stupidity by treating it as a chronic illness rather than an obstacle to be overcome. This attitude is horsetrout. Horsetrout, horsetrout, horsetrout. For those of you who do not know what I'm talking about, it's the trout that comes from a horse.
Do you know who the stupidest smurfer in the world is? It's the individual who thinks they're hot trout when they're actually just trout. This individual will make no effort to improve themselves and will instead blame others for their own shortcomings. The only way to overcome stupidity is to accept it and that means that others need to can the bulltrout shrink talk and call a spade a spade. It might make the stupid mad at you in the short term, but it's better for us in the long term. Once we recognise and accept that we're stupid, we can start improving. It was specifically due to horsetrout shrink talk that I didn't realize that I was stupid until well into my late 20s. I believe the shrink talk term for that is "arrested development," and it was caused by well-intentioned "nice guy" types who refused to accept reality.
I don't want to hear "Oh, you're just a slow learner, but it's not your fault and we're all beautiful snowflakes." Seriously, that horrible rhetoric needs to stop. Stupidity is everywhere, and it can be overcome. I mean to be one of the ones who does so.
